KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Thursday praised the flood evacuees he visited in Pahang for their fortitude, saying they were keeping their spirits up despite the difficulty they were in.
"Despite the difficult moments, the spirit and tenacity of the flood victims are still clearly visible," he said in his latest post on his Facebook account.
Najib opened the 2013 Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre here today and rushed to Pahang to look at the flood situation in his home state.
In his Facebook post, the Umno president said he found the 500 evacuees at the relief centre at the Sekolah Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Pekan to be in high spirits despite the discomfort of having to stay away from their homes.
He expressed the hope that the situation in the flood-affected areas would return to normal soon.
Pahang is the worst-affected of the states hit by the floods this week.
The floods in the state claimed the life of Mohamed Alif Khalid, 21, who was found drowned yesterday in Sungai Kampung Sepial, Kuala Tembeling, Jerantut.
The number of evacuees in Pahang dropped to 29,270 this evening from 38,323 this morning.
