A Baloch Hindu doctor shot dead again in south-west Pakistan.

QUETTA | Thursday 13th December 2012 | News Agencies :: A well-known Hindu doctor was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in the restive Mastung district of Balochistan province of south-west Pakistan today, police said. Mastung district of Balochistan, is about 25 kilometres south of Quetta.

Dr. Lakshmi Chand was going home when two gunmen riding a motorcycle fired at him in Mastung town, police officials said. The violent incident remain still clueless and the assailants are suspected as fanatic Islamist.

Dr. Chand was killed instantly and the skull-capped gunmen fled from the spot. Police sent the body for an autopsy and registered a case.

The motive for the killing could not be immediately ascertained.

Members of the minority Hindu community in Balochistan have been targeted by criminal gangs and extremists in recent months.

Several middle class Hindus, mostly petty traders, have been kidnapped for ransom. Daily wager poor Hindus are not paid timely and sometimes treated as bonded labour. Hindu women are abducted and raped.

About one year ago (8th Nov 2011) four Hindu doctors were murdered at their clinics in Sindh province. Eleven Muslim people were held then for the brutal murder.
Experts say that Hindus in Pakistan are being brutally killed as Kafir due to fanatic incitements from the Muslim clergies out of hate preaching of Quran. The incitements are dangerous like these: The Koran defines the kafir and says that the kafir is:

The 40-year-old district official repudiated his wife after four days of marriage because "she was not a virgin" and he had a right "to an untouched bride". Although president Yudhoyono has called for his dismissal, the case raises questions about the relationship between religion, society, women's rights and abuses of power.

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - The recent case of a government official in a West Java district who repudiated his new wife four days after the wedding because she was not a virgin has stirred a hornet's nest in Indonesia. Even President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono waded into the affair, calling for the official's dismissal, something that many Indonesians would be too happy to see. However, the case is symptomatic of some of the major social and religious contradictions that characterise the life of the world's most populous Muslim nation. One such contradiction is the practice by rich businessmen to marry more than one woman according to Muslim tradition, without registering the union with the civil authorities, especially since polygamy in Indonesia (as well as in other Muslim nations) is frown upon by the state.

The case in question goes back to this summer when 40-year-old Aceng HM Fikri (pictured), a district chief in Garut, repudiated Fani Oktora, 18, after four days of marriage, celebrated on 14 July in an Islamic ceremony.

At the time, Fikri was already married to another woman according to the civil law. Less than a week after taking a new bride, he sent her a text message repudiating her, saying that he did not spend 250 million rupees (US$ 26,000) for "a girl that was not even a virgin."

"Having spent all that money, I had the right to expect her to be untouched," he said in his defence. "Going to bed with a celebrity would not have cost me as much," he added.

These words sparked a row across the country, with women's groups and associations outraged. Quickly, activists and students took to the streets, calling for him to be removed from office.

The protest reached the highest office in the land, when President Yudhoyono spoke about the matter at an official meeting with the country's governors. He personally told Interior Minister Gamawan Fauzi to deal with the 'Fikri scandal' and get his resignation. For the president, the local official's behaviour was inappropriate and indecent vis-à-vis women's rights.

However, this was not a localised incident, but is actually representative of a widespread problem that affects the entire country where religion holds great sway and wealthy men and politicians can indulge in their power and take advantage of the fact that Islam authorises polygamy.

Many women thus find themselves in 'nikah siri' or unregistered marriages, sharing a husband with an official wife. This has created resentment, especially among unofficial wives who are more likely to be victims of abuses and marginalisation. Because of the lack of legislation in the matter, the legal system cannot do much.

Under Islamic law, Muslim men can marry up to four wives. Some rich pro-polygamy Indonesians want even more. However, under General Suharto (1967-1998), Indonesia took a stand against polygamy. Polygamous public officials were dismissed.

In order to make matters clearer, Suharto signed into law in 1974 legislation that bans government officials from practicing polygamy, a measure many Indonesians believe was taken because of the influence of Suharto's wife, Tien Suharto, a very traditional Javanese woman but one opposed to polygamy.

Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, was by contrast a notorious womaniser and polygamist.

Kuwaiti MPs this week approved a law with a death penalty for Muslims who curse God, the Koran, all

prophets and the wives of Islam's Prophet Mohammed. Non-Muslims who commit the same offence face a jail term of not less than 10 years, according to the bill.

Defendants who repent in court will be spared capital punishment but will get a jail sentence for five years and a fine of $36,000 or one of them, while repentance by those who repeat the crime is not acceptable, the bill says.

"We do not want to execute people with opinions or thought because Islam respects these people... But we need this legislation because incidents of cursing God have increased. We need to deter them," opposition MP Ali al-Deqbasi said during the debate.

Shiite MPs also demanded that the bill impose the death penalty on anyone who curses their sect's 12 revered Imams, but the Sunni-dominated parliament rejected their request.

The bill becomes effective after the government accepts it, the emir signs it and it is published in the official gazette within one month.

Shiite MP Abdulhameed Dashti said the bill was unconstitutional and against the principles of Islam. "Why are we trying to show Islam as a religion of death and blood when it is actually the opposite of that," he asked.

In March authorities arrested a Shiite man for allegedly cursing the Prophet Mohammed, his wife and some companions in a tweet. The suspect, Hamad al-Naqi, is being detained pending trial later this month.

Kuwaiti courts have in the past several months jailed activists from both sects over religious offences.

According to MIC Youth chief T Mohan, it was the PKR vice-president who intimidated 'one of my boys'.

PETALING JAYA: MIC Youth chief T Mohan has accused PKR vice-president Chua Jui Meng of spinning a yarn, claiming that it is the latter who tried to initimidate “one of my boys”.

He also challenged Chua to lodge a police report soon on the claim that he was manhandled yesterday by some 50 MIC members outside the National Registraion Department (NRD) director-general’s office in Putrajaya.

The MIC Youth leader claimed that the incident happened when one of his Youth members questioned what Chua had done to help the stateless Indians when he was a minister in the 90s.

“He must have known about the problem as he was the health minister. Surely, he had some data on how many stateless Indians tried to seek treatment at government hospitals. When that question was posed to him, Chua tried to push my Youth member, K Novinthen,” alleged Mohan.

Targetting PKR vice-president N Surendran, he called the former “a liar” as to date, he had yet to provide evidence that there were 300,000 stateless Indians in the country.

“He previously accused us of trying to beat up a teenage girl and now he is accusing us of manhandling Chua. A lot of people were there, including reporters. They know what happened,” he said.

Calling Surendran a “parachute leader”, Mohan urged the lawyer-politician to work with the grassroots first before taking up issues.

“Ask your boss [Anwar Ibrahim] why he didn’t resolve the stateless Indian issue when he was the deputy prime minister. Stop creating dramas like your boss. I think one Anwar is good enough for the whole country,” he said.

‘This is MIC’s culture’

Meanwhile, Chua said he was considering lodging a police report on the incident.

“We are discussing about it. I’m just waiting for Surendran, who is now in court, to deliberate on the matter,” he added.

Asked if he had suffered any injuries, the former health minister said: “Nothing serious.”

Targetting MIC, Chua said that it was politically foolish for them to stop PKR from addressing the plight of stateless Indians.

He added that MIC should have instead assisted them in the matter as it involved the Indian community.

“But with MIC’s history, they cannot stop this culture but they don’t realise that this kind of action is highly detrimental to them,” he said.

Chua also criticised the police for allowing MIC members to enter the NRD building while the PKR leaders were having talks with the NRD director-general Jariah Mohd Said.

“Police only allowed five of us to attend the meeting. When we came out of the meeting room, we saw a group of MIC members waiting for us. The police failed to protect us,” claimed Chua.

The PKR leaders had led hundreds of stateless Indians to protest at the NRD office, alleging that the government had deliberately denied them blue MyKads.

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein in his statement on Dec 12 has given proof that the Barisan Nasional government is turning “stateless” Malaysian citizens into non-citizens.

This is an extremely dangerous, unlawful and serious action by the Home Ministry.

Hishammuddin claimed that yesterday the National Registration Department (NRD) in Putrajaya received 308 applications, out of which 280 were for permanent resident status.

This is a blatant and irresponsible lie.

The 308 Malaysian Indians at Putrajaya NRD yesterday filled up applications for the issuance of blue MyKads. They did not fill up any applications for permanent residency.

The applicants were all Indians born in this country and either of whose parents were Malaysian citizens.

Thus under Article 14 of the Federal Constitution, this makes them Malaysian citizens by operation of law. The government has thus unlawfully denied blue MyKads to them.

Why has Hishammuddin branded these persons who are already citizens by operation of law as permanent residents?

In fact, during the Pakatan Rakyat organised rally yesterday, about 500 stateless Indians were present at Putrajaya NRD, accompanied by about 1,000 supporters.

Although advance notice was given, the NRD was unable to properly cater for the large numbers and only 308 managed to put in their applications.

We challenge Hishammuddin to produce the filled application forms, which will show that they are MyKad application forms, and not applications for citizenship.

Hishammuddin and BN political leaders continue to ignore and belittle the sufferings of stateless Malaysians.

Instead of taking steps to resolve the problem, the BN leaders are childishly asking Pakatan to produce the 300,000 stateless Indians. It is the duty of the federal government to locate and register the stateless Malaysians throughout the country.

It is the federal government that has the resources and manpower to do so. It is a complete abdication of duty for the BN government to ask the opposition to resolve the problem.

The fact that stateless Malaysian Indians are encountered in alarming numbers everywhere in the country, whether in estates, rural or urban areas, shows conclusively the devastating failure of the system and the BN government.

We in Pakatan say again that there must not be a single person forced to be stateless in our country.

The party boss is accused of failing to resolve problems faced by branches in Petaling Jaya Utara.

PETALING JAYA: An MIC branch leader today called on party president G Palanivel to quit politics, accusing him of blocking others from serving the Indian community.

“If you’re not helpful, leave politics,” said S Padnmanagan, who leads MIC’s SS2 Tengah branch. “Don’t be a stumbling block to others who want to serve the community.”

He said his call had the support of nine other branches in the party’s Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) division, including Taman Aman, Damansara Utama, Taman Sentosa, Damansara Jaya and Kampung Cempaka.

He alleged that Palanivel had failed to resolve problems that had been plaguing the branches since the PJU division was dissolved in 2009 following the defection of several members to PKR.

Padnmanagan said that since 2009 Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had allocated nearly RM1 million for programmes in PJU to draw back Indian support to Barisan Nasional but that the money had not trickled down to the branches.

“I wrote a letter to PJU BN coordinator Wong Sai How on the matter, but I did not receive any response,” he said.

“That’s when I was told by some other BN leaders that I have to approach the Selangor MIC chairman, who is Palanivel, on the matter since my division is defunct.

“And I approached Palanivel several times, but we have, till now, not received any funds.”

The lack of funds had prevented many MIC branches in PJU from conducting programmes to help poor Indians in the area, he added.

Aid for poor Malays

Padnmanagan spoke of a recent function where about 1,000 poor Malay children received aid under the 1Malaysia programme in the form of school uniforms, bags and books.

“They even had free haircuts, but poor Indian children received nothing,” he said. “I know this because I was there at the function. I really felt bad.”

According to him, there are more than 6,000 Indian voters in PJU, concentrated in the state constituencies of Damansara Utama and Kampung Tunku.

“In total, 7% of the voters in PJU are Indians,” he said.

He took Palanivel to task for not appointing an MIC coordinator for PJU soon after the division was dissolved.

“But we only received our coordinator four months ago, who is none other than Petaling Jaya Selatan MIC division chief V Subramaniam, or Barat Maniam,” he said. “And Barat Maniam has yet to receive an appointment letter.”

However, Padnmanagan questioned the wisdom of choosing Subramaniam for the post, saying the latter’s own division had many unresolved problems.

“Why do you need to appoint an outsider to coordinate PJU MIC? Don’ tell me you can’t find even one local leader to lead this place.”

He also accused Palanivel and Subramaniam of trying to remove him and the branch leaders aligned to him by denying them the right to update their membership in the party.

“The party will usually issue the B Form to all branches, which will allow us to update our membership. We have to do it by Dec 15, but until today, we have yet to receive the forms.

“When I asked party secretary-general S Murugesan, he said the forms were with Subramaniam.”

He urged Palanivel to respond to his allegations.

“I want BN to be strong,” he said. “But in the end, it only takes a few bad leaders to spoil the name of the party.”

PKR MP S Manikavasagam is caught on video ranting about the Selangor MB and an exco over the demolition of temples in the state.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two separate video clips have emerged showing PKR’s Kapar MP S Manikavasagam urging Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to resign over the demolition of a shrine in Sepang.

In the clips, Manikavasagam also called state exco Dr Xavier Jayakumar a “bastard” and blamed the latter for the demolition of temples in Selangor over the past four years.

The two clips, taken during the statesless Indian protest organised by PKR at Putrajaya yesterday, were shown to the media by MIC during a press conference here.

In the first video, Manikavasagam criticised Khalid, urging the latter to tender his resignation.

Answering a question on whether the demolition of the shrine was correct, he replied: “Wrong! Cannot accept this! I’m telling you. MB must resign.”

While in the second clip, Manikavasagam said: “I’m telling you, I already talk…. Xavier is another bastard. First, he protected the Majlis (Sepang Muncipal Council), after that when we pressure him, and then he twist. I also don’t agree to touch ‘kuil’ (temple), how many… already seven [referring to the number of demolished temples under the Pakatan government].”

He also claimed that three notices had been served to demolish a temple in his constituency.

Manikavasagam added that Jayakumar was an “idiot” who was adamant in demolishing temples and did not listen to the former.

Pakatan government under pressure

Meanwhile, MIC Youth chief T Mohan said that his wing would bear the cost to rebuild the shrine which was erected in the compound of a house.

Citing the video clips, he said that it appeared that the Selangor government was under pressure from its own members.

On Nov 20, 30 enforcement officers from the Sepang Municipal Council (MPS) trespassed into the home of one S Gobi Kumar and demolished a Hindu shrine located within the compound of the residence.

A week later, Jayakumar defended the council’s action, prompting MIC Youth to demand a public apology from him.

However, Jayakumar later claimed that the action was done unilaterally by certain MPS officers and that he suspected sabotage.

On Dec 7, MIC Youth also staged a peaceful protest in front of the Selangor state secretariat building demanding Khalid and Jayakumar to resign over the demolition.

Despite repeated attempts, Manikavasagam could not be contacted for comment.

BN has long been accused of not adequately addressing the issue of statelessness amongst Malaysians irrespective of race, religion and creed. Recently, N Surendran has been actively pursuing his 300,000 figure of Malaysian Indian stateless tirelessly with vigour. He, however, has not been able to produce a list of stateless Indians be it 30, 300 or 3,000.

Surendran this morning claims that the issue of statelessness should not exist in this day and age but the issue of statelessness is a global phenomenon and cannot be resolved even if Surendren is able to oust Padang Serai MP incumbent, N. Gobalakrishan.

Taking MP for Kapar, Manikavasagam’s, argument this morning that his late mother and mother-in-law were victims of statelessness, though his father-in-law ironically happens to be an MIC stalwart, is in itself cumbersome to consume.

Latifa Koya that was observed this morning inquiring from her ‘informers’ if there was a police barricade that she and her comrades could barge through, stems questions of her actual motives.

To most of the protestors and Indian bystanders that were there today, the major drawback was that Anwar Ibrahim or Nurul Izzah were not there today. To add some ethnic diversity to the PR entourage, Chua Jui Ming appeared just before the crowd was entering JPN. Interestingly, PAS also did not show their support for the stateless Indians cause. Latifa had a hard time trying to pacify the mainly Indian crowd to bring down their party flags without the assistance of Mat Sabu and Unit Amal.

At the JPN foyer, the police was able to tackle the belligerent attitudes of the opposition leaders though scuffling ensued as the media was not given enough material to the opposition’s advantage.

A couple of hours later, Charles Santiago mentioned that Chua Jui Meng was manhandled by MIC youth leaders. A few minutes later, he was ‘corrected’ and it was then suggested that a PPP member was the one that shoved Chua Jui Ming. Sivarasa claimed that it was nothing serious and he (Chua Jui Meng) will ‘handle’ it.

It took Raveen, Charles Santiago and Manikavasagam a good five years to realise that stateless Indians in Malaysia are an issue. Interestingly, Surendren managed to gather 300 people from all over Malaysia to protest in front of JPN and only 68 out of the 300 held red identity cards.

It takes a worried man, to sing a worried song

Carpet seller implicates, PM's brother in bid to silence murder witness
The world of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor appears in increasing danger of coming apart because of sensational revelations by Rosmah’s former personal friend hinting at complicity in the six-year-old murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibu. Najib’s brother Nazim has now been enmeshed in the scandal.

The 28-year-old Altantuya was shot in the head twice and her body was blown up with C4 plastic explosives, possibly to hide an unborn child, in October 2006 by two bodyguards from Najib’s personal unit. One of the two confessed that they were to be paid RM100,000 to get rid of the woman, who had been jilted by Najib’s best friend, former security analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.

The two have been on death row for three years. The confession, despite the fact that it was a cautioned statement, was never introduced in court and the individual who offered to pay to have Altantuya killed has never been named.

The big question being asked all over Kuala Lumpur is who, if anybody, put the businessman Deepak Jaikishan, who once said he was as close to Rosmah as if she were his sister, up to the revelations, which began just before the three-day United Malays National Organization’s Annual General Assembly which started Nov. 28.

“Deepak has claimed that he’s with the No. 2 (Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin), but there’s no evidence to prove that,” a longtime political source told Asia Sentinel. “If you remember, there were moves earlier this year to suggest that Najib should step down before elections and allow the Nov. 2 to lead the Barisan Nasional (the national ruling coalition) into the polls. Posters to this effect were put up in Johor and Penang but they fizzled out just as fast.”

During the UMNO conclave two weeks ago, Deepak met with Zahid Hamidi, the defense minister to appear on a video that supposedly implicated Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in his decision to go public. That has largely been discarded by the political cognoscenti in Kuala Lumpur as a red herring.

At the same time as Deepak has been making his statements, the retired inspector general of police, Musa Hassan, has issued a series of charges that politicians have intervened in police affairs and called for an independent panel to probe his allegations. For Musa to protest that he is shocked, shocked to learn of such political intervention is almost laughable, since he himself played a role in railroading Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim into prison for six years on trumped-up charges of sodomy. Musa told opposition publications that when the police were about to arrest politically connected suspects, they would often receive calls from powerful figures.

As with Deepak, the timing of Musa’s allegations raises many questions -- including allegations he didn’t make. On Oct. 20, the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand announced that Musa would hold a Monday press conference in Bangkok with “new revelations” over Altantuya’s murder. Then, just as mysteriously as it had been made, the announcement was withdrawn and Musa told local reporters he had never heard of the matter.

National elections must be held before mid-April 2013. Driving Najib from power at this point, especially if his faction were to turn its back on the party, would probably wreck its organizational capability to put on the elections.

Although it appears unlikely that would happen, the allegations are believed to be taking their toll among party stalwarts. Especially if Muhyiddin is behind them, it would spell big trouble. Political observers say it does pave the way to drive him out if the Barisan doesn’t make gains in the April polls. The scandal so far hasn’t resonated outside the urban areas into the Malay heartland enough to damage the party’s chances.

At the heart of the Deepak revelations is a statement by Perumal Balasubramaniam, who was hired by Razak Baginda to keep the Mongolian translator and party girl away from him after she jilted him. In a sworn declaration he said that Razak Baginda had told him Altantuya had been Najib’s girlfriend first, but that he had passed her to Razak Baginda because he expected to become prime minister and didn’t want a scandal over a girlfriend. Najib has repeatedly denied meeting the woman and sworn on the Quran that he knew nothing of her. He called Bala’s statements “frivolous.”

That statutory declaration earned Balasubramaniam a fast ticket out of the country after a quick trip to a local police station, where he later said he was forced to sign a statement recanting his original one, on pain of harm to his family. In November 2009, Balasubramaniam displayed photocopies of several RM50,000 checks drawn on Public Bank of Malaysia made out by Deepak as an inducement to leave the country.

For the past four years, Bala has continued to accuse forces aligned with Rosmah of engineering his forced departure from Malaysia. Now, however, Deepak has largely corroborated Bala’s original statement and added new revelations. In a series of interviews with independent or opposition news sites and bloggers, Deepak has been metering out additional details that implicate others. He has now threatened to go public with a 26-page booklet detailing his relationship with Rosmah and to give the full details of the episode involving Bala.

“Deepak has gone ballistic,” said a longtime political observer in Kuala Lumpur. “Najib’s guys are very jittery. The mainstream powers have blacked out almost all news on Deepak’s allegations but in cyberspace it has gone viral. Najib’s guys’ way of combating this is to order a complete blackout in the mainstream press and for those involved not to comment and hope the issue goes away.”

In a new interview with the news site Malaysiakini Deepak has now named Najib’s younger brother, architect Mohd Nazim Abdul Razak, as the individual who put up the money in return for Bala’s repudiation of his declaration.

"I affirm what was earlier said that Datuk Nazim joined the meeting to facilitate whatever needed to be done. My involvement was just to get everyone together," he told Malaysiakini in an interview, saying he had done so as a favor to Rosmah after receiving a call from the then-defense minister’s wife. In earlier declarations, Bala displayed checks showing he had received RM750,000.

According to Deepak, the money paid to Balasubramaniam came from "Datuk Nazim and his resources".

"Yes," he told Malaysiakini when asked again to confirm that the "Datuk Nazim" he mentioned was indeed Najib's brother.

“I don’t know whether Deepak knows what he is doing but he is certainly not doing it to appease his conscience. Having said that, he knows a lot of secrets and he is courting danger,” said one source.

Dia menuding bekas Presiden Bacharudin Jusuf Habibie, 76 tahun, sebagai pengkhianat bangsa karena telah menyebabkan Timor-Timur lepas dari Indonesia. Dia menyamakan Habibie dengan pemimpin oposisi Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, 65 tahun, yang kerap disebut pengkhianat.

Anwar menyebut tulisan mantan Pemimpin Redaksi Utusan Malaysia itu dangkal dan berisi prasangka keji terhadap Habibie. "Ini kian menunjukkan betapa arogannya para elite UMNO," katanya. Dia menambahkan tuduhan Maidin itu memang bukan hal baru. "Dia selalu menyebut siapa saja berseberangan dengan UMNO sebagai pengkhianat, namun kali ini sudah kebablasan."

UMNO (Organisasi Bangsa Melayu Bersatu) merupakan partai penguasa sejak Malaysia mendapat kemerdekaan dari Inggris pada 1957. Mereka memimpin koalisi Barisan Nasional.

Wakil perdana menteri sekaligus menteri keuangan di era Mahathir Mohamad ini mengakui Habibie datang atas undangannya dan pemerintah negara bagian Penang dan Selangor. Dia menjadi pembicara dalam lawatan tiga hari, 4-6 Desember lalu. Habibie juga memenuhi undangan makan siang bersama di kediaman Anwar di Bukit Segambut.

Kalau serangan atas tokoh Indonesia lainnya?

Ini bukan pertama. Pada kampanye pemilihan umum 2008, ketua pemuda UMNO pernah menyebut Gus Dur orang tidak bermoral karena mendukung Anwar. Mereka menyebar foto Gus Dur dengan seorang perempuan.

Apakah sikap semacam ini menjadi sebab selalu memanasnya hubungan Indonesia-Malaysia?

Inilah yang menyebabkan hubungan kita senantiasa retak. Sebab, para elite UMNO kerap bersikap arogan. Arogansi UMNO bukan sekadar menyerang oposisi. Mereka sewenang-wenang dan tidak peduli dengan hubungan antar negara, menyerang tokoh-tokoh dari negara lain. Saya hampir setiap bulan dicap pengkhianat.

Apakah Anda melihat sikap UMNO itu lantaran mereka menuding teman Anda dari negara lain membantu upaya Anda menggulingkan kekuasaan UMNO?

Tudingan semacam itu tidak benar karena semua pecinta kebebasan dan keadilan bergerak ke arah itu. Rakyat pecinta kebebasan dan keadilan juga mendukung hal itu.

Jadi Perdana Menteri Najib Razak wajib minta maaf?

Najib selaku presiden UMNO harus minta maaf. Meski ini pandangan pribadi, tapi Zainudin adalah orang UMNO dan tulisannya dimuat di surat kabar milik UMNO. Utusan Malaysia berada di bawah pengawasan langsung Najib.

The UMNO/Barisan Nasional propagandists have been working overtime to forecast various doomsday scenarios for DAP, Pakatan Rakyat and the country in the run-up to the 13th general elections, as for instance, warning of a repetition of May 13 racial clashes, chaos and even Malaysia becoming bankrupt and be like Greece in three years if UMNO/Barisan Nasional is replaced by Pakatan Rakyat in Putrajaya.

It is almost five years since the Pakatan Rakyat formed the state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kedah and over 22 years since PAS captured the Kelantan state government. Have there been May 13 racial clashes in the Pakatan Rakyat states or have they gone bankrupt?

If Pakatan Rakyat rule is such a disaster, Datuk Seri Najib Razak would not have to undergo the two-year agony of repeatedly postponing the date for the 13th general elections because of his lack of confidence that UMNO/BN would get a renewed mandate to continue to govern Malaysia.

There would also have been no need for Najib to resort to undemocratic and unconstitutional means to mount an illegal coup d’etat to grab power from the duly-elected Pakatan Rakyat state government in Perak in February 2009, a result which the people of Perak are determined to reverse by restoring Perak state to Pakatan Rakyat in the 13th general elections.

The UMNO/BN leaders and propagandists must be told in no uncertain terms to stop their various false doomsday scenarios for the people and the country if they truly love Malaysia.

Just as Kelantan had not gone bankrupt after more than 22 years of PAS rule and Penang, Selangor and Kedah have not gone bankrupt after nearly five years of Pakatan Rakyat state governments, but in fact chalking up a better record than Barisan Nasional both in good governance and promoting the people’s welfare, Malaysia will not become bankrupt after three years.

On the contrary, under PR governance, Malaysia will be set on a new growth path to lead to greater prosperity and justice for all Malaysians for the country, not only because of an end to corruption, cronyism and abuses of power but because Malaysia will be governed by leaders whose first priority is the best interests of all Malaysians and the country rather than of themselves and their cronies.

There cannot be another repetition of May 13 racial clashes in the country, for if anything untoward and unfortunate happens after the 13GE, it will not be clashes between Malays and Chinese, but Malays versus Malays or even Malaysians versus Malaysians with each side led by Malays.

Is Najib prepared to come forward to give an assurance to the nation that such an eventuality would not happen, as Malaysia is wedded to the system of parliamentary democracy and UMNO/BN committed to the goal of making Malaysia the “world’s best democracy” – which must be preceded by the onset of a two-party or two-coalition democratic system?

Najib’s most quoted saying since becoming Prime Minister is that “the era the government knows best is over”, but this is also his most violated pledge.

Up to now, despite repeated questions in Parliament and outside, Najib has refused to give a public pledge that he would fully honour the spirit of “the era the government knows best is over” and that if it is the verdict of the 13 million electorate in the 13GE for a change of federal government in Putrajaya, he and UMNO would respect the verdict as well as giving a solemn undertaking to ensure a peaceful transition of power to Pakatan Rakyat.

If Najib truly believes that “the era the government knows best is over”, he should issue a directive to all UMNO/BN leaders to stop their various false doomsday scenarios for the country and people and end all their politics of lies, hate and fear against Pakatan Rakyat.

In the “100 Days to Putrajaya”, as the 13GE will fall in the next 100 days, DAP and PR must dismantle and debunk the various false and nefarious doomsday scenarios foisted by the UMNO/BN propagandists to frighten Malaysian voters from exercising their historic right and responsibility to usher a change of federal government for the first time in the nation’s 55 year history.

The demolition and debunking of the doomsday scenarios must begin from the 16th DAP National Congress this weekend – with the first task for DAP delegates to prove UMNO/BN prophets of doom wrong with a ringing and powerful endorsement for the Karpal-Guan Eng leadership to lead DAP in the PR battle for Putrajaya in 13GE and to put to rest the lies and falsehoods spread by UMNO/BN propagandists in their attempt to split the DAP national leadership.

GUA MUSANG, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is leaving it to the top Umno leadership to decide whether he will be contesting or not in the coming 13th general election.

He said only the top leadership in Kuala Lumpur could make the decision but whatever it would be, he vowed to work hard throughout to ensure victory for Barisan Nasional in the elections.

"I have no power to decide on the candidates including myself; it is up to the party leadership to decide," he said at a gathering with women voters at the South Kelantan Land Development (Kesedar) scheme in Meranto, here.

At the gathering, he also handed out contributions to several women who worked hard for the party. Also present were Nenggiri assemblyman Mat Yusoff Abdul Ghani and Galas assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusof.

Tengku Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang Umno division chief, said that working hard for the party was the responsibilty of all leaders and members to ensure BN received the people's mandate to remain in power.

He said at the recent Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had called for a new spirit from all the delegates in mobilising the party election machinery at all levels.

"We in the Gua Musang division are ready to face the general election anytime and to ensure the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency and its three state seats of Nenggiri, Paloh and Galas remained under BN.

"There is no reason for the people to reject us if we work hard to improve their lot, and it has been proven that the BN government is capable of carrying out transformation for the benefit of all."

Tengku Razaleigh said retaining the Gua Musang seat and its three state seats should not be a problem for BN as the division leaders and members had always been open and working hard as a team, while history had also shown that Gua Musang had always been a BN stronghold.

The incident occurred as the seven opposition members were leaving after a meeting with the NRD Director General Jariah Mohd Said and other senior officers.
PKR’s N Surendran tweeted about the incident at 1.34pm.
When contacted, Klang MP Charles Santiago confirmed that there was pushing, shoving and harassment by a group of about 10 to 15 men, believed to be MIC Youth, inside the NRD building. “Chua appeared to be their target,” said Charles.
Charles expressed surprise that the men had been allowed in as others had been kept out.
MIC Youth information chief S Subramaniam has reportedly denied the allegations. “We were there as part of a special task force. Chua reacted harshly when one of our members asked what he had done for the community when he was in the cabinet,” he told the Free Malaysia Today web portal.
Earlier, a few hundred people had gathered in front of the National Registration Department (JPN) this morning. “JPN doors are literally closed for stateless Malaysians,” Santiago had reported at the scene. “A team of MPs are negotiating with police and the JPN senior team.”
Chua Jui Meng had also been tweeting about the gathering. “In Putrajaya to support d stateless & d fight for justice for d oppressed,” he had said. His last tweet was at 11.43am.
The whole issue of stateless residents requires a political solution, said Charles, as it was unlikely that NRD departmental procedures could resolve the issue. “They seem to have very little interest in resolving it.”
My own grandmother, who spent the last three decades of her life in Malaysia, passed away 13 years ago with only a red identity card. She grew up in India and after her marriage, settled in Singapore, where she lived for three decades, before relocating to Malaysia in the 1960s to be with her adult children.
So I can understand the predicament and insecurity that many of those in similar situations experience.

COMMENT Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's frequent deferment of the polls was always a risky strategy given the propensity of his government to suffer blowouts from ongoing disclosures of serial malfeasance.

It was figured the quicker the polls were done with the safer it would be for the PM, whereas tardiness would leave his government dangerously undermined by the sleuthing Rafizi Ramlis of the opposition, heightening in their wake the possibility of calamitous results for the ruling BN at the eventual ballot.

Now that strategy of deferral is in grave peril of coming apart at the seams on account of disclosures already made and threatened further, and it bodes mortal peril for Najib's tenancy as prime minister.

It's no more a question of whether it will be polls in early March or in June; it's whether it will be Najib as the PM or someone else in Umno who will make that trip to the palace to request the king for Parliament's dissolution.

Or would it be some other scenario - at this stage the possibilities are, to say the least, surreal.

The latest revelations from businessman Deepak Jaikishan have the aura of a smoking gun that could blow Najib's and wife Rosmah Mansor's cover in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder case.

The circumstances of the murder of the Mongolian woman, with its tendrils reaching up to high places in the cabinet, military and the police, were enveloped by an august obscurity such that when two police officers were charged and found guilty of the murder, the striking absence of a motive to kill on the part of the convicted only accentuated the puzzle further.

PM's immunity wearing thin

The disclosures made by Deepak two weeks ago, when he first intimated he knew details of the Byzantine capers surrounding the murder and was willing to shed them, and which he resumed yesterday have now made the Teflon-protected aboveboard stance of the PM well nigh untenable.

Sure, the office of Umno president and prime minister of Malaysia confers a no-effect belt, a carapace, if you like, of immunity on its holder.

How else to explain the absence of a summons by the prosecutor in the Altantuya murder trial to Najib or his wife on matters connected to the trial that have a plausible link to them in their official capacities?

The revealed contents, never denied, of a mobile phone conversation Najib - defence minister at the time of the murder carried out with the aid of ordnance only available at his ministry - had with a clearly distraught aide who was being arraigned for Altantuya's murder, was either sheer coincidence or indicative of prior knowledge of incidents tied to the murder.

But immunity from a summons to account for conduct that is not exactly pristine is immunity that can only hold on the collective holding of several tongues.

Now one tongue has begun to wag such the whole aura of obscurity that has surrounded the Altantuya case may yield to the best disinfectant - sunlight.

Threat to tell all

Deepak yesterday threatened to tell all, a phrase that used to be familiar from internecine feuding among BN components parties in the 1980s.

"I will tell all," a Neo Yee Pan or an estranged ally of S Samy Vellu would pipe up, but when push came to shove in factional dramas that periodically beset BN parties in the 1980s, the public could neither trust the teller nor the tale, if at all there were more than morsels from the mouth of kiss-and-threaten-to-tell malcontents.

But the carpet dealer-cum-property developer Deepak is shaping up to be a special case of deal-and-divulge, perhaps because hell has no fury like a businessman who has been cut off at the knees as Deepak claimed he had been in a property deal he negotiated with Najib when the latter was defence minister.

Now Deepak seems determined to spill the beans on the capers that surrounded the second statutory declaration of private eye P Balasubramaniam, in which he renounced the sensational disclosures he had made in his initial SD a day earlier in July 2008.

The brace of SDs by Balasubramaniam - the lurid contents of the first SD and the equally sensational volte face of the second, combined with the disappearance of the declarer himself - was enough for the police to open an investigation, but this is a contingent that has become an adjunct of whoever holds the prime ministerial office.

Furthermore, when its supervisory ministry (Home) is in the hands of someone as feckless as the PM's cousin, nothing but a sleepwalker's insulation from reality could be expected from the personnel who should have been getting down to the bottom of it all.

But four and a half years on from the making of those SDs, and a little over six years from the murder itself, the ghost of Altantuya, like Banquo's in Shakespeare's play of a duke of vaulting ambition and his accomplice wife of nefarious design, hovers around the personages that were on the periphery of the case whose political connections obtained for them what may well turn out to be a temporary, and delusive, immunity.

EXCLUSIVE Carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan has named the premier's younger brother, Mohd Nazim Abdul Razak, as the person who paid P Balasubramaniam in return for the former private eye signing his controversial second statutory declaration (SD).

He said he did this as a favour to the PM's wife, Rosmah Mansor, after receiving a call from her.

Balasubramaniam, who went public with the first SD on July 3, 2008, in which he linked Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to murdered Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu, claimed he was coerced to sign the second declaration to refute his earlier one.

The private investigator, now living in exile in India with his family, also claimed that he was paid off in cash later - with more money promised to him - after agreeing to sign the SD and relocate himself and his family out of the country.

According to Deepak, part the money paid to Balasubramaniam came from "Datuk Nazim and his resources".

"Yes," he replied when asked again to confirm that the "Datuk Nazim" he mentioned was indeed Najib's brother.

Apparently promised RM5 million for his about-turn, Balasubramaniam said he only received RM750,000, in instalments, before the payments eventually stopped.

Malaysiakini had tried to contact the premier's younger sibling for his response, but to no avail.
A chance encounter between Nazim (left) and the news portal's journalists during Friday prayers at Masjid Negara in December 2009 yielded a curt "I have nothing to say" from the architect when he was asked about Balasubramaniam's allegations.

Nazim was visiting the grave of his father, second prime minister Abdul Razak, when approached by Malaysiakini.

His elder brother, the PM, had also similarly dismissed Balasubramaniam's allegations with two words - "frivolous statements".

Malaysiakini had two weeks prior to that sent a list of questions to Nazim's office but did not receive any response. Repeated attempts to call him and visit his office also proved futile.

'The curse of Altantuya'

Incidentally, Deepak had earlier denied having arranged the meeting between Nazim and Balasubramaniam at a popular shopping mall in Damansara, which he now confirmed.

The carpet trader said he felt the need to come clean as he believed "the curse of Altantuya" is on him.

Deepak, with red eyes, apologised for his constant, racking coughs, saying he was unwell and had been through a lot in the past month or so.
He also feared, he added, that "Altantuya's ghost is not resting in peace" and "is crying out for justice".

On his right arm hung about two centimetres of what seemed to be yellow and red prayer strings - the kind one gets from a temple for protection or when praying for favours from the Almighty.

His decision to go public followed what he described as attempts by those he had helped to "stifle" and "disrupt" his life in order to silence him for his part in Balasubramaniam's (right) second SD saga.

"I understand that in politics when the noise is too much, there is a cooling-off period, but here maybe, because of the nature (of our politicians), there is also the stifling. (It's) the stifling I cannot stand," he told Malaysiakini at the interview, the second in as many weeks.

"You don't stifle someone who has helped you."

No choice but to retaliate
Deepak described what he alleged as stifling to be contracts cancelled, businesses delayed, raids on his companies by government agencies and direct harassment of him through intimidating SMSes and phone calls, all of which had him fearing for his safety.

"I am just a simple businessman. If you don't disturb me, I will not disturb you," lamented Deepak, warning that he has more information to release if the harassment against him continued.
He said he had evidence stashed overseas, with instructions to lawyers that these be made public in case anything untoward happened to him.

He was done with cowering in fear, Deepak said, since "they have already done everything imaginable" against him. As such, he felt that it was time for him to seek redress.

"You cannot molest someone you have already raped," he said, stressing that he had no choice but to retaliate.

"I have no ulterior motive," Deepak said, and he went on to plead that the enforcement agencies investigate all his claims and show the world that in Malaysia, no one - no matter how powerful he or she is - can get away with committing wrongdoings.

He also called upon government officers, politicians and cabinet ministers to no longer cringe in fear of "the two people", whom he only referred to as the "powerful couple".

"You cannot be afraid of any persons - if they are angels then maybe, but since they are just mere mortals, then you shouldn't be afraid."

(Malaysiakini) Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak played a major role in the retraction of private investigator P Balasubramaniam's statutory declaration (SD) in 2008, according to carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan.

In an interview with Harakah, which has been uploaded to Youtube, Deepak said that Najib had done so to head off possible action taken by his enemies within Umno, aimed at thwarting his premiership ambitions.

"But there was a faction within Umno that did not want Najib to be prime minister. They had their own interest. They were ready.

"Someone from this group will come up with a SD to explain who had done this cruel deed and identify the person who instructed him. This is at very high level," said Deepak.

At the time, Najib was the deputy prime minister. He became prime minister in April 2009 after his predecessor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, was forced to step down to take responsibility for the disastrous showing at the 2008 general election.

Balasubramaniam's first SD, revealed on July 3, 2008, documented his sworn statement that Najib had links with slain Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Met Najib at his home

The following day, Balasubramaniam made another SD, claiming that the allegations that he made in the first SD was false.

"Thus, the objective behind changing the SD is not because they were afraid of Bala. The main objective is bigger than that. They need to stop (the other faction's) next move.

"That very night, we had to complete (the new SD). We had to (compel Balasubramaniam) to U-turn. We had to close (the matter). That was the problem," he said, stressing the urgency of the situation.

Deepak said that he had received a telephone call from Rosmah Mansor, Najib's wife, at dusk on July 3, 2008.
Deepak said that Rosmah had sought his help since he knew Balasubramaniam, who had gone public with his first SD in the morning that day.

Following this, Deepak said that he went to Najib's official residence in Putrajaya and told him that initial contact with Balasubramaniam showed that the latter was not willing to help them.

"He (Najib) called a lawyer and then he called his brother, also a lawyer. After (some) discussion, he asked me to to meet him and find a way to make him agree to retract the SD.

"I called Bala... He said he wanted to meet Datuk Seri and Datin Seri if he were to retract the SD," said Deepak.

'MACC must take action'

Deepak said that Najib then proposed that his younger brother Nazim, an architect and businessman, represent him instead. The meeting subsequently took place around midnight at a shopping mall in Damansara.

The deal, which also involved undisclosed sums of money, was stitched and Nazim called Najib to arrange for a lawyer to draft the second statutory declaration at a posh hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

In the video, Harakah muted the name of the lawyer mentioned by Deepak.

Following this, a press conference was hastily called the next day. Deepak said that the lawyer did not wanted to be present, forcing him to call a lawyer friend to accompany Balasubramaniam before the press.

Deepak said that he was revealing this information in order to urge the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to take action and protect the integrity of institution.

"I'm sure there are good people in the MACC. It is impossible that everyone only take orders from that couple. We have 28 million people in Malaysia," he said.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court today postponed the negligence suit which was filed by N Indra, the mother of A Kugan who died in police custody.

Judge Datuk VT Singham allowed the application of counsel RL Bani Prakash after being informed that Indra's lawyer R Sivarasa (left) was unwell.

Bani Prakash told the court that Sivarasa had been admitted to the Subang Jaya Medical Centre, now known as the Sime Darby Medical Centre, after fainting in his home yesterday.

Sivarasa was scheduled to cross-examine deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today.

Justice Singham said that if Sivarasa was still unable to appear in court on Dec 17, there must be a substitute lawyer in his place.

"If Sivarasa cannot attend, another lawyer who represents the plaintiff (Indra) must take over, as this case was filed in January. It must be resolved as soon as possible. We cannot postpone it any longer as it is of public interest," he said.

Not necessary for second defendant to attend

The judge also allowed the second defendant, former police constable V Navindran (who was convicted of causing hurt to Kugan), to be absent from the next court proceeding after considering his predicament of having to take leave and bear his own cost.

He added that Navindran (right), who had completed his testimony, need only be called to court if it was applied for by the plaintiff or defendant.

On Jan 13, Indra filed the suit against Khalid, who was then Selangor police chief, Navindran, former Subang Jaya police chief ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar, the inspector-general of police and the government.

In her statement of claim, Indra claimed that all the defendants had failed to ensure the safety, health and welfare of her son, Kugan, while he was in police custody from Jan 14 to Jan 20, 2009.

Kugan, 23 at the time, had been detained as a suspect in a luxury car theft case.
