Judicial Officers Warned To Continue To Hear Cases

PUTRAJAYA, June 11 (Bernama) -- Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Zaki Tun Azmi Friday issued a stern warning to judicial officers that they continue to hear their cases even after getting their promotions and transfer to other courts.

He said he would revoke the promotion and transfer of officers found not to adhere to the directive.

"I receive information that there are a few judicial officers who no longer hear their cases after getting their promotion and transfer to other courts.

"These officers, I'll make sure their promotion or transfer order are revoked.

"I know who they are...otherwise, you will not be here to receive this award," he said at the Malaysian Federal Court excellent service award presentation here Friday.

The recipients included Kuala Lumpur High Court senior assistant registrar Tengku Amalin A'ishah Putri Sultan Ismail Petra, who is the Kelantan Sultan's daughter.

Zaki also said that he still received complaints on corruption involving staff of the judiciary and warned them that he would not sympathise with those found involved.

Zaki said that the Subordinate Courts Act would be amended to enhance the power of the Sessions Court and the Magistrate's Court to ensure cases could be disposed off faster and to create more senior posts.

"We are confident that the presence of more efficient courts will convince investors and the international community that we are serious in protecting investors," he added.
