PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (picture) said Zulkifli had crossed the line despite his advice to him not to “cause any tensions.”
At a Pakatan Rakyat function last night, Anwar said Zulkifli had been informed by email that he had to explain himself before Tuesday.
“He should have come to us with the matter. I have always given him room to speak,” he said.
Last Saturday, Zulkifili lodged a police report against Khalid for allegedly insulting Islam and the Selangor Sultan. His criticised Khalid for saying non-Muslims could call God “Allah” and that certain Islamic enactments needed to be reviewed.
This is not the first time that Zulkifli has publicly opposed his team mates. His hardline Islamic views and public actions have ruffled many feathers before. His police report against Khalid seems to be the last straw.
However, it remains to be seen how far Anwar will go in dealing with this latest act of defiance. Many feel the opposition leader has so far been extraordinarily lenient with Zulkifly.
Zulkifili is a diehard Anwar supporter, standing by him during his darkest days in 1998 and throughout the reformasi struggle, sacrificing his own professional life and career aspirations.
