Ex MB Nizar, Gobind Singh @ Ops Padam Hindraf forum

A counter 25th November Ops Padam Hindraf operation led by ASP Vasanthakumar A/L Krishnan of the E 3 M Division of the Bukit Aman Federal Police Headquaters was held in Bidor, Perak over the weekend (Malaysia Nanban 27.1.2010 at page 7)

It is regretted that especially ex Perak Menteri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin and Gobind Singh participated in this Ops Padam Hindraf forum which has been “franchised” to police mandore ASP Vasanthakumar to lead.

Just last Sunday 24/1/10 at a public forum at the Pillayar Temple in Nibong Tebal, Penang, a middle aged lady speaking up from the floor even cried when relating about this ASP’s similar banner in a Tamil Daily carrying the pictures of P. Waytha Moorthy and P. Uthayakumar with a cross on it. Res Ipsa Loquiteour .

The Penang DCM II and ex Perak DAP exco mandores are trying to play “paper politics” by compromising some local Tamil newspaper reporters by keeping them in their (these mandores) payroll. They would merely be one time elected representatives as in the post 25th November 2007 Hindraf Rally. The Hindraf people power would reign supreme in the 2012/2013 general elections

These DAP and PKR mandores can fool some of the Indians all the time and all the Indians some of the time. But they cannot fool all the Indians all the time especially in the post 25th November 2007 Hindraf Rally era.

Even the mastermind MIC successfully played this paper politics game for 50 long years but it no longer works since the 25th November Hindraf Rally and thereafter.

To all these DAP, PKR, PAS and the police mandores keep trying harder!

Poor Indian denied funeral rites hall low cost flats

In almost all PPR, DBKL and other low cost flats the malay muslims without even asking are given a surau funeral rights hall (rumah mayat) and a multi purpose hall.

But for almost all the PPR, DBKL and other low cost flats, hundreds of thousands of Indians have to beg for even the very basic rumah mayat to conduct their loved ones’ last funeral rites. This extent of racism, religious extremism and UMNOs’ malay muslim supremacy does not happen in any part of the world expect in One Malaysia.

22,000 Tamil school pupils in standard one nationwide

(Makkal Osai 5/1/10 headlines). But even after 52 years of independence and with 120,000 Tamil school pupils nationwide, UMNO is still refusing to grant full financial assistance for all the 523 Tamil schools nationwide.

Similarly the PKR, DAP and PAS state governments of Selangor (98), Penang (28) and Kedah (58) are refusing to grant state government land to all the Tamil schools in their respective states, the single factor that is preventing tamil schools from becoming fully government assisted.

Indian poor kidney patient denied government aid

Nirmala (31) has to spent about RM 810.00 per month on her kidney malfunction. Her husband earns a mere RM 750.00 per month as an unskilled security guard. But for the 2010 Budget only RM 48 Million has been allocated for the Indian poor.

But then UMNOs’ 1,016,799 graduates from the racist and religious extremist Biro Tata Negara (UM Buliten 21/6/09 at page 19) graduates see to it that Nirmala and hundreds of thousands of other such medically needy cases do not get help simply because they are Indians, whereas even divorcee muslim women are getting government assistance.

20 top schools 99% deserving Indians denied places

clip_image001

In all the aforesaid 20 top schools, 99.9% of the deserving Indian students have been denied places by the racist, religious extremist and supremacist UMNO regime. Each of these schools are given more than RM 500,000.00 each and up to slightly less than a million (The Sun headlines 26/1/2010).

UMNO Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the Ministry’s target was 30 more such schools next year and 50 in 2012. We believe the student intake into these 20 schools are into hundreds of thousands.

But 99% of the deserving Indian students have been and are excluded from these 20 top schools in One Malay-sia for the only reason that they are non malay or non muslims. For example the 817 Tamil school pupil’s who had scored all the 7As’ in UPSR last month are denied entry.

UMNO has never and will never make public the full list of names of these 817 top and high achieving students and in which 20 top schools they are in now.

Chitrakala: MIC chief welcomes MACC probe on MIED

Malaysiakini, Jan 27 2010

MIC president S Samy Vellu today welcomed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation into controversies surrounding the party's education arm - Maju Institute for Education Development (MIED).

"I am happy that they are investigating because we have lost a lot of money. An individual and a family have swindled MIED," he said.

Samy (right), samy vellu pc 160409 02who is also MIED's chairperson, confirmed that he has not been questioned by the anti-corruption agency.

Six MACC officers are going through the company's records for the third day.

They have obtained the minutes of latest meetings between MIED Bhd and its subsidiary, MIED Capital Sdn Bhd, as well as documents pertaining to an advance of RM4 million by MIED to its subsidiary.

MIED's founding trustee member, KS Nijhar, said the raid was believed to be due to a police report lodged in Putrajaya last week.

"The report was made in relation to three MIED Capital cheques amounting to RM4 million."

He added that the raid was part of an on-going investigation by the MACC into allegations of misused funds.

Nijhar said that the payment vouchers for the cheques were approved as payments to reimburse advance payments from MIED to MIED Capital under the instruction of former MIED CEO, P Chitrakala in 2005 -2006.

The police report however alleges that the money was siphoned to companies belonging to Chitrakala's husband and brother-in-law.

The transfer was also approved by the then MIED Capital chairperson, M Mahalingam, who was also serving as MIC treasurer at that point of time.

Mahalingam, when contacted, was unable to comment on the matter as he had been called up by the MACC. Another MIED director, K Kumaran, is also being questioned by the MACC today.

chitrakala_miedMeanwhile Chitrakala (left) denied media reports that the MACC is conducting an investigation on her. She also declined to comment as "these matters are in court" and it would be sub-judice for her to do so.

Controversy surrounding MIED arose last year after the relationship between Samy and Chitrakala became strained as they accused each other of mismanagement of funds.

MACC RAIDS MIED OFFICE

Officers aim to get to bottom of RM4m missing from institute's coffers

MIED

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has moved in on the Maju Institute for Education Development (MIED) and its officers are expected to camp at its office here until the end of the week to get answers to some RM4 million missing from the institute’s coffers.

They are probing allegations that the sum, paid out by MIED as advances to MIED Capital Sdn Bhd, a special purpose vehicle formed to manage MIED, was routed to two unrelated companies after MIED Capital reimbursed the money to MIED.

MACC officers, who have been at the MIED office located at the MIC headquarters over the past two days, are also looking into whether a former key MIED employee and her husband owned the two companies.

They have seized documents and questioned several staff.

Sources said more staff involved in the financial paper trail would have their statements recorded, as well as the former key employee and two senior MIC leaders who were until recently co-signatories for payments.

In confirming the MACC raid, MIED founding member Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar told The Malay Mail yesterday that the MIED management was giving its full co-operation to the officers, and was intent on bringing those responsible to book.

Billion-ringgit MIED, the MIC’s education arm, is also being investigated by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) for violating eight sections under the Companies Act 1965.

Nijhar, in a text message to all nine MIED trustees, informed them that under the Act "all trustees are collectively and individually responsible and liable for these offences, unless otherwise proven".

"Hence, compounds and/or prosecutions and/or fines may be imposed on MIED and/ or on individual trustees," he said, adding that this also applied to the 30-odd members who also "have fiduciary duties and not merely proprietary duties as in other types of companies".

Nijhar warned: "If this matter is not resolved satisfactorily internally, it will have serious consequences for those holding posts in companies or in the government."

The CCM recorded a statement from former MIED chief executive and financial officer P. Chitrakala Vasu last
Wednesday and two days later, former MIC Youth chief S. Vigneswaran gave his account.

Vigneswaran has launched an unprecedented derivative action against the MIED board of trustees under Section 181 of the Companies Act.

On Monday, The Malay Mail reported that a Commissioner for Oaths had been implicated in the alleged backdating of the annual accounts of the MIED.

He is alleged to have attested that MIED chairman and MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu signed two statutory declarations on the MIED financial statements for 2004 and 2005 before him on Oct 15, 2008, and again on Dec 17 the same year.

The commissioner is said to have admitted to the MACC, which was acting on a report by Chitrakala, that Samy Vellu did not allegedly endorse the statutory declaration in his presence.

Chitrakala had lodged several reports with the MACC and police over alleged mismanagement and fraud in MIED last year.

MIED, in return, also lodged police reports against her over alleged "missing" money and abuse in MIED.

The MIED had received millions in donations from MIC members, the Indian community, and the government to support the MIC’s education ventures.

MIED owns the RM1 billion Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST) in Kedah, for which the construction cost ballooned, by one account, from RM150 million to RM500 million.

The government had given RM300 million in grants for its construction but MIED still owes Bank Pembangunan about RM230 million in loans.

Hisham says incidents meant to provoke clashes

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani - The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (picture) said the desecration of two mosques earlier today appeared to be aimed at sparking racial and religious strife.

“I ask everybody to evaluate the situation themselves and give us space to find the perpetrators because I suspect that the purpose of the action is meant to bring chaos to the country. They want clashes between people of different races and religions,” he said.

He asked the public to be patient as the authorities started probing the incidents which followed arson and vandalism attacks on churches in recent weeks.

Hishammuddin said that the police will not compromise on the attacks and promised those responsible for leaving pig heads at two mosques would be caught.

“I am very angry that this incident happened and I will never compromise as you could see with the actions taken against those involved in the church attacks.

“I have ordered the IGP to the mosque to monitor the situation. We will find them and ensure that they will be captured.

“I want everybody to be patient and not listen to any rumours,” he told reporters at the Home Ministry here.

He added that Malaysians are “peace loving people” and would not condone such acts.

Pig heads were reported to be found at two mosques near here this morning, just days after the fire-bombing attacks and acts of vandalism against churches and a Sikh temple had taken place in the wake of the “Allah” controversy.

The two mosques are the Masjid Jumhuriyah in Taman Dato Harun and the Al- Imam Tirmizi mosque at Taman Sri Sentosa.

These latest acts could be construed as attempts to escalate tensions and provoke unrest between Muslims and non-Muslims as pigs are considered unhygienic in Islam and therefore their presence in the mosques is an act of desecration.

Hishammuddin said that the mosque incidents appeared aimed at inciting racial sentiments.

“I hope the people will give us the time to do the investigation because we have shown that we will not compromise on this matter.

Ten international terror plot suspects arrested under ISA

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — Nine foreigners and one Malaysian were arrested recently under the Internal Security Act (ISA) as part of a anti-terrorism swoop, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said today.

“Ten were arrested recently for terrorism and international terrorist networking,” he said.

He confirmed the ten arrested were linked to international terrorist organisations.

But he said they were not planning an attack on Malaysian soil.

“We are currently working with international anti-terrorist agencies,” he said.

The minister declined to reveal where and when the suspected terrorists were caught. “I am not at liberty to say at the moment because this is a very serious threat to the security of our country. It involves cooperation from international agencies,” he said.

He said the “majority of the 10 had just arrived” in Malaysia.

“They have not been in the country long so they have not yet established themselves in the country.

“If we did not take any action then they might have influenced the security in our country,” he said.

He also noted the arrests had justified the importance of the Internal Security Act in the country.

PKA, KSDB in a tussle over PKFZ lawsuit arbitration

By Lee Wei Lian - The Malaysian Insider

PETALING JAYA, Jan 27 — Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB), the main contractor of the scandal-hit Port Klang Free Zone transshipment hub, now wants the lawsuits that were brought against it by the Port Klang Authority (PKA) to be settled through arbitration but the latter has disagreed.

KDSB has applied to court for an order to stay the proceedings in two of PKA’s lawsuits alleging that the dispute between the parties ought to be referred to arbitration. KDSB’s stay applications in both the lawsuits are fixed for case management on Feb 19. The company also has pending suits against PKA and its auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

But PKA has obtained an order at the High Court to restrain KDSB from proceeding with the arbitration process pending the court’s determination of their stay applications. KDSB is appealing to the Court of Appeal against PKA’s High Court order.

“We want the lawsuits to be heard in an open court system as the matter is also of interest to the public,” PKA chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng (picture) told The Malaysian Insider today.

“It is fairer. If you have arbitration, only one person decides and you cannot appeal,” he added.

KDSB deputy CEO Datuk Faisal Abdullah claims however that they are not trying to delay the legal proceedings but want the matter to be resolved as soon as possible and pointed out KDSB was also taking some risk by pushing for arbitration.

“Arbitration is final. We are taking some risk too as if we lose we cannot appeal. This is the fastest way to resolve things,” he told The Malaysian Insider when contacted. “We want finality.”

PKA has to-date filed four civil suits at the Shah Alam High Court against KDSB, BTA Architect and former PKA general manager Datin Paduka Phang Oi Choo (OC Phang).

The first suit against KDSB was filed last Sept 18, challenging the validity and computation of interest charged by KDSB for the sale of the land to PKA. KDSB has entered appearance to the suit and also filed and served its defence on 4 January this year.

The second suit against KDSB was filed a week later on Sept 25, seeking a declaration that the increase in the interest rate from 5 per cent to 7.5 per cent per annum in respect of a supplementary agreement for additional development works signed in April 2006 is null and void.

A third suit was also filed against KDSB and BTA Architect on Sept 25 that was related to key development agreements and supplementary agreements signed between February 2003 and November 2006, and PKA has sought for declaratory orders and damages against both the defendants.

The fourth suit was filed by PKA on Oct 8 against OC Phang for breaches of fiduciary, contractual and common law duties to PKA. OC Phang has entered appearance to the suit and her defence is due to be filed by Jan 31. OC Phang has in the meantime filed an application in court for discovery of documents. She has also been charged for criminal breach of trust in the PKFZ scandal.

Apart from filing the civil suits in court, PKA has lodged various police and MACC reports and complaints to various disciplinary bodies.

Selangor to declassify poverty eradication contributions

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid - The Malaysian Insider

SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 — The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government has decided to make public documents on all assets and contributions given to its affiliate, the state’s Poverty Eradication Foundation.

The foundation was established by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government and alleged discrepancies were discovered when PR took power in the country’s richest state.

“We will declassify the documents pertaining to the assets and contributions made to the foundation so the public can see them,” Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (picture) told a press conference here.

The foundation has refused to cooperate with Khalid’s government in declassifying the documents but the Selangor Mentri Besar said it is legally bound to do so.

“The Association Article clearly states that they are required to answer and report to the state government,” he said.

The move is widely seen as Khalid’s effort to gain ground in the war between PR and BN. The former are currently on the defensive against what has been described as a BN onslaught.

Khalid’s administration is facing an ongoing graft probe in illegal sand-mining by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which PR leaders believe is a strategy by the BN-ruled federal government to destabilise and unseat its pact.

It also understood that Malay support for the PR state government has deteriorated following its backing for the controversial ‘Allah’ ruling allowing the Catholic weekly Herald to use the term to describe the Christian God in its Bahasa Malaysia section.

“For now, this is what we’ll do. Expect to see a thicker report in the future,” he said

Former Malaysian leader: Jews cause world’s problems

MELBOURNE, Australia (JTA) -- Malaysia’s former prime minister accused America’s "Jewish lobby" of preventing President Obama from ending the war in Afghanistan.

Local Malaysian media reported that Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who ruled the Muslim nation between 1981 and 2003, told the Conference for the Support of Al-Quds on Jan. 21 that AIPAC was hindering two of Obama’s key election promises: ending the war in Afghanistan and closing the Guantanamo Bay prison.

“There are forces in the United States which prevent the president from doing some things,” the Malaysian Star quoted Mahathir as saying. “One of the forces is the Jewish lobby, AIPAC.”

Mahathir, long known for his anti-Semitic views, went on to say that Jews “had always been a problem in European countries. They had to be confined to ghettoes and periodically massacred. But still they remained, they thrived and they held whole governments to ransom.

“Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany, they survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world,” he said.

Mahathir also said there was “strong evidence” that the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States were staged as an excuse to wage war against Islam.

“If they can make 'Avatar,' they can make anything,” he was quoted as saying.

In response, Australian federal lawmaker Michael Danby, who is Jewish, said that “Dr Mahathir’s comments that Jews had to be periodically massacred are abhorrent and should be condemned. Hopefully within a few months, when there are democratic elections, we will see a modern Malaysian leader in Anwar Ibrahim, who will lead a non-racialist coalition to election victory.”

PKR toothless against "untouchable" Zulkifli

After the party’s actions on Tuesday, PKR can no longer defend its struggles as it has opted for what is a quick and expedient solution, he said.

Written by Chan Kok Leong, The Edge

It is pointless for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to talk about governing the country if it cannot deal with Kulim-Bandar Baru member of parliament Zulkifli Noordin.

And judging by the party’s actions or inaction on Tuesday, it is as if Zulkifli is beyond reproach, wrote PKR’s highest profile ordinary member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim on his blog today.

“Although the political bureau decided to allow the due process take place and referred Zulkifli to the disciplinary committee within 30 days, and placed a gag order on him, many people feel that PKR are not serious in taking action against him,” said Zaid, who is also PKR supreme council member.

Many had already expected that no disciplinary action would be taken against him, Zaid added.

“Meanwhile, Zulkifli continues to contradict the party’s stand in Umno’s media outlets as he has done in the past.

“It is as if Zulkifli is an untouchable within the party,” he added.

After the party’s actions on Tuesday, PKR can no longer defend its struggles as it has opted for what is a quick and expedient solution, he said.

“PKR today is not much different from Umno; only a poorer version of Umno,” said the former law minister.

The Kelantan-born lawyer said that there were those within PKR who were afraid to take action against Zulkifli, who is thought to be well-loved by Malays and Muslims.

“But Zulkifli is no Malay hero and neither is he a Muslim icon.”

Zulkifli’s continued contradictory statements against PKR has now given the impression that Pakatan Rakyat has betrayed the Muslims and the Malay rulers, said Zaid.

“Especially over the Allah issue,” he added.

If the party is confident that the stand it has taken in the “Allah” issue is in line with the principles of the Federal Constitution and religious scholars, then it should continue to defend it, said Zaid.

“The party cannot continue to work on two different political worlds, switching stands when it suits them.”

According to Zaid, PKR colleagues had asked him to be patient and let the disciplinary committee do its work.

“I respect the due process but PKR should suspend Zulkifli until the disciplinary committee has completed its investigations.

“While the party wants to be fair to him, it must also be fair to the thousands of members who uphold the principles of PKR and the coalition.”

The former Umno politician said that he may be sacked for voicing his opinion over this matter.

“But I’m used to being sacked and I will continue to give my opinion to defend ethical politics for the good of PKR and Pakatan Rakyat.”

The gathering storm in Pakatan

FIRDAUS ABDULLAH and SHUHADA ELIS, New Straits Times

His loyalty to Parti Keadilan Rakyat supremo Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the party knows no boundaries but when it comes to religion, Kulim-Bandar Baru member of parliament Zulkifli Noordin is ready to defy them all. FIRDAUS ABDULLAH and SHUHADA ELIS speak to the maverick PKR member and MP, who sees himself as “ikan bilis” in the party, on his controversial views
Q: You were a practising lawyer, how did you get into politics?

A:
I was not even supposed to contest in the March 2008 general election. The seat for Kulim Bandar Baru was reserved for the late Datuk Sheikh Azmi Sheikh Ahmad, as he was the incumbent. But two or three days before the nomination day, his leg was amputated because of diabetes. So they needed a candidate and (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim called me up, asking me to contest. I was not even a party member then and we expected to lose. But Anwar gave me money and I went there campaigning, just days before the nomination day. But I won with a 8,000-strong majority. And that is when the "problem" started.

Q: Almost two years down the road where do you see the direction of PKR as a political party and Pakatan Rakyat as a coalition now?

A: I personally believe PKR and Anwar are genuinely into reform. The reform agenda is sincere, but the reality of politics is taking over. Things have changed. For once, the leadership of Barisan Nasional has changed, (Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak is more dynamic and he can read the enemy well. So he is implementing what we want to do, as he is also into reform. This has caused setbacks in certain things tried by Pakatan. So they have to shift to adjust to current challenges. But sometimes there are events which are not within our control that supersede the programmes, like the issue of the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims. It is beyond our expectations and had forced us to take a stand. And that stand has caused political repercussions.

Q: Previously you have mentioned that there are "little Napoleons" in the party who are waiting to kick you out (from PKR). How do these little Napoleons come into play?

A: I believe they have their own agenda, not to reform. Their agenda is revolution. In the sense they are changing the very fundamental pillars of the society, like making Islam and other religions equal. The special privileges of the Malays (which are) enshrined in the Federal Constitution, I think they will take it off. I'm not calling it a reform, it is a revolution. So this should be made known to the public because they should know that this is what we (in Pakatan Rakyat) are going to do if we take over the country.

Q: And you do not agree with that (changing the Constitution)?

A: I am against it because that (the Constitution) is the pillar of the country. We have been living in peace and harmony for so many years, so why should we touch or remove it (the special privileges of the Malays and the position of Islam)?

Q: How do you digest the DAP's recently-launched "Middle Mala- ysia" approach?

A: It is another way of turning Malaysia into a Chinese country. It is a chauvinistic approach and that is what they are doing in Penang anyway. Silently and quietly, they are turning it into another Hong Kong. They are saying certain Malay officers are not good so (they should) change (but) why replace them with Chinese officers? For me DAP is pure and simple a Chinese chauvinistic party. So we have to balance, and Anwar is playing that (political balancing act). He is the balancing factor. On the other hand, you have Pas which is very extreme into Islamic state, so you have to balance between the two. You cannot allow DAP to be masquerading here and there.

Q: But lately Pas is not as extreme as it used to be, even on the "Allah" issue. Party leaders and members have different views and do not subscribe to the Islamic agenda any more.

A: Exactly. I think there are certain elements in Pas who are too engrossed with political achievements that they overlook their fundamental struggle of Islam. And unfortunately, these few elements are receiving support from the "new world" within Pakatan. They are in the mainstream, so to speak. The old school are seen to be out-of-place, this is what's happening now.

Q: You mean they are neo-liberals?

A: That is the word, neo-liberals. And it is eating Pas. Unless they come back to their fundamental struggle, I think Pas will be fading out very soon.

Q: What do you think of PKR supreme council member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim who had called for your sacking?

A: I personally have no respect for this person. In fact I had challenged him when he filed a suit against the Terengganu state government to stop the implementation of hudud law when Pas was in power. At that time he was still in Umno. I look at him as an opportunist. I have never seen him as a fighter or reformist.

Q: Does Anwar take him (Zaid) seriously? Is he grooming Zaid to replace him someday?

A: I don't think so. Anwar sees Zaid as a political asset at the moment. Anwar is a political master so he sees the opportunity. People with political value are valued by Anwar, and Zaid is dancing to their tune (the mainstream in Pakatan). Unfortunately, I think Anwar is also dancing to their tune. He should be more firm in his struggle rather than politicising everything. For me this is dangerous.

Q: There has been much hype about the "road to Putrajaya" and Anwar seizing power as the prime minister, so where do you see all this heading to?

A: If you look from the micro-level of Pakatan, what we are doing now is self-destructive. Our stand on Islamic and "Allah" issues and certain things we are doing are self destructive. Unless Pakatan really stops, sits down and looks back at what we are doing now. But from the macro point of view, for the good of the country, I think it is time for all political parties in Pakatan and Barisan Nasional to sit down and talk. We cannot afford all the bickering during these times of serious economic, security and political crises.

Q: There are views that DAP is taking advantage of the situation to push for its own agenda because Pakatan strives for the non-Malay support. How do you see the situation?

A: DAP are part of the "little Napoleons". They see the opportunity before them through Pakatan. I really hope the other leaders realise this. That is why at this stage, it is better for Pas, PKR and Umno to sit together because we are the main players, the rest are just fringe parties. We must sit down and chart a new dimension for Malaysia, we can make a change and we should, before it is too late.

Q: Have you voiced the suggestion to anybody?

A: I am waiting for the right time. In fact I am waiting for my "Titah di Raja" speech in the March parliamentary session, calling all the three parties to sit down. We need cooperation to face all this.

Q: What is your stand in the party now since many are against you, including (PKR vice-president) R. Sivarasa and recently, Zaid?

A: I am becoming their punching bag now (laughs). I will say that they see this as the best time to get rid of me, and they are harping on it. I think for the first time, Anwar is being influenced by them, because I have been with him for quite some time. I have been with him at his lowest time, from day one, when all his friends were against him. And he knows my belief, my conviction on Islam and struggle, and my loyalty to him. I (have) stood my ground for him, until my (law) firm got busted and the police lock-up became my second home.

Q: Do you think PKR will not have much problem if (Pas Shah Alam MP) Khalid Samad does not come into the picture?

A: When this issue (the use of the word Allah by non-Muslims) came out, Anwar called me and said he knew my stand, but tried to be polite. But I told him, Datuk Seri, you are a Muslim leader with Islamic credentials and people never forget that. You know very well there are two contrasting views, so why didn't you take a neutral and non-partisan stand? Then came Khalid with his arrogant views... But the breaking point was when he said the Non-Muslims Enactment in Selangor was outdated and the Malays were not wise enough then. That is too much. It is insulting. Even then, I told Anwar to caution him (Khalid), but he did not. This is not Umno's doing. People on the ground are not happy because Anwar and Khalid are churning the issue into politics. But on the Pakatan side, the "little Napoleons" are really happy.

Q: Have you spoken to Anwar on this issue?

A: I have replied to his email but there is no reply from him just yet. The issue is not about the word "Allah" but because of Khalid's statement on the enactment. What Khalid has done is a criminal offence and I have nothing to apologise.

Q: Personally, where do you think you stand in PKR now?

A: I think not only because of the friendship, but because Anwar believes I am a political asset for the Malay Muslim sector, so he maintains it. But if he starts believing that I am a political liability (to the party), then the curtain is down for me. But I have no qualms about it as my main priority is my religion. So if it is fated that I have to leave Pakatan, I have no regrets at all. I have never dreamt of becoming Yang Berhormat, MP or even a minister. I believe the 'rezeki' is with Allah and I'll survive anyway. But if they decide it is time for me to go, I'll go. But it does not mean I will quit as politician or MP. Let the people decide at the next general election.

Q: But if they sack you, would you join another party?

A: I will consider and keep the options open. At the end of the day, my main move is whether it benefits Islam. Maybe it is a blessing if they want to kick me out, I can be more vocal. At the moment, I still limit (myself). You never see me criticise Anwar.

I still appreciate that he is my boss although in this "Allah" issue, the pressure is so enormous on me to criticise him, but I say no. But if it is fated that I am out of PKR, maybe it will be a different ball game altogether.

Q: Your fellow MP (Azan Ismail, of from Indera Mahkota) has quit his party posts as Pahang deputy chairman II and state membership bureau chairman. Does it have something to do with the controversy surrounding you?

A: I am not that close to him but you will be surprised at the amount of support I receive from my fellow MPs. I am telling you that something big will happen soon if they (Pakatan) do not buck up. There are a few MPs who are not happy, they feel we are giving in too much to DAP. I hope Anwar can read this.

Q: By "something big", you mean an exodus?

A: Something serious will happen, politically. If Anwar fails to handle this issue in a manner acceptable to all, not only seen to be favouring the neo-liberals, I think he is in for a big surprise. Quite a number of PKR MPs and assemblymen are not the type to say things openly, but when they make a decision, you will be surprised. The Indera Mahkota MP is the quietest MP among us, he hardly speaks, but he has quit. And there are a lot of MPs who are like him. I am receiving strong support from my friends who told me not to give in, and I do not think I will. It is too big an issue.

Anwar at crossroads over Zul Noordin

Dr Sivamurugan said Anwar "was caught in a situation" where he needed to come out with new mechanisms as the latest action by Zulkifli had affected the level of confidence from the grassroots and the public.

By ALAN TING, Bernama

Many expected the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) political bureau to make a strong recomendation against Kulim-Bandar Baru member of parliament Zulkifli Noordin yesterday, after he was seen to have crossed the line for making a police report against a fellow opposition MP from PAS.

However, only a gag order was imposed, pending a disciplinary board investigation against him, indicating the party needs more time to figure out the next course of action against the firebrand politician.

"(PKR party adviser Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim) looks like he is in a dilemma now, he has to make sacrifices between personal friendship and the interest of the party," said political analyst Dr Sivamurugan Pandian.

Zulkifili is a die-hard supporter of the PKR de facto leader, having stood by him during the former's darkest days in 1998, and throughout the Reformasi struggle, sacrificing his own professional life and aspirations for Anwar.

It is this bond that makes it hard for him to be ignored and dealt with clinically.

Known for his hardline views and actions in the past, Zulkifli has ruffled many feathers but thus far, received no more than a slap on the wrist for various transgressions.

This includes his infamous action with a few others who barged into the Bar Council's forum on religious conversions in August 2008. The forum was eventually cut short.

Last November, Zulkifli made headlines again by challenging PKR vice-president R. Sivarasa to quit after being criticised for constantly going against the party line.

However, his latest police report against Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad seems to be the last straw.

Dr Sivamurugan said Anwar "was caught in a situation" where he needed to come out with new mechanisms as the latest action by Zulkifli had affected the level of confidence from the grassroots and the public.

"You can agree and disagree but to what extent (do) you want to sacrifice the party's interests? Some of Zulkifli's opinions did not carry weight and did not get the support of the PR (Pakatan Rakyat). If DAP and PAS do not accept Zulkifli's opinion, then there will be some kind of crisis of confidence," he said.

"Anwar has to make a decision whether he wants to sacrifice Zulkifli for the benefit of PR or he wants the crisis to prolong. It is also a choice between personal friends or party interests. Anwar is really at the crossroads now," he added.

Dr Sivamurugan said it would be better for the party to deal with the issue now, rather than sweep it under the carpet.

"It is not a major issue but it would keep haunting them, especially in this new political landscape.

"It would be good to sacrifice one for the benefit of the party. However, they must be mindful of the backlash from such decisions as Zulkifli also has many supporters in the party, as well as the rival party," he said.

It is this delicate situation that some party insiders said, prompted Anwar to be non-committal when asked if Zulkifli was a liability.

Therefore, it is not surprising that some PKR leaders, such as Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, have slammed the party for treating Zulkifli with "kid gloves" and certain quarters in the party are hesitant to take action against Zulkifli as they feel that the lawyer is popular among the Malays for his Islamic issues.

"Many feel that PKR is not serious in taking action. In fact, there are those who predict it won't take strict action within the given time," Zaid wrote in his blog today.

However, for PKR strategic director Tian Chua, this is not an issue of personal friendship or party interest but more, an action of a certain individual wanting to be a "hero."

"The chip has to be down. We don't want to give him a chance to glorify himself.

"We don't want that (he becoming the hero). No more giving him chance to be a hero. The last thing we want is, (for) Umno to rally behind him," he said.

Little Napoleon

By Zaid Ibrahim

Hebat bunyi keputusan PKR.

ANWAR IBRAHIM

More important for Najib to convene all-party all-religion RTC to demonstrate Malaysian unity and condemnation of religious intolerance giving real me

By Lim Kit Siang,

The desecration of two mosques in Petaling Jaya, the Masjid Jumhuriyah in Taman Dato Harun and the Al- Imam Tirmizi mosque at Taman Sri Sentosa this morning, must be condemned in no uncertain terms – no ifs and buts – by all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.

Again, for the past four weeks since the beginning of the year, Malaysia is hogging the international limelight for all the wrong reasons – the 16th and 17th cases of desecration of places of worship involving arson attempts and acts of vandalism which now involve 11 churches, a Sikh gurdwara, three mosques and two surau.

This has aggravated Malaysia’s crisis of confidence to attract foreign investors, tourists and students, undermining Malaysia’s international competitiveness and tarnishing Malaysia as a safe and secure haven for FDIs and as an ideal location for tourists and students.

Clearly there are irresponsible people out to cause mischief and create inter-religious strife arising from the Dec. 31 judgment of the Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Datuk Lau Bee Lan lifting the 2007 Home Ministry ban on the Catholic Church weekly Herald and allowing the use of the word “Allah” in its Bahasa Malaysia version, and it is most unfortunate that the lack of firm commitment by the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein to uphold the rule of law had sent out the wrong message to these mischief makers.

Although the Home Minister and the police claimed that the “situation is under control”, this is clearly not the case as illustrated by the two latest cases of desecration of the two PJ mosques, marking a new total of 17 such desecrations since the first case, the arson attack at Metro Tabernacle Church at Desa Melawati, Kuala Lumpur on January 8.

The Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the entire Cabinet is not taking the situation as seriously as it warrants – which is why I am very disappointed at the lack of leadership displayed by the Cabinet Ministers so far to deal decisively with the spate of desecration of places of worship by withdrawing from a protagonist’s role so as to be able to mediate a quick solution of the “Allah” controversy based on inter-religious dialogue, understanding, goodwill and harmony stemming from the Lau Bee Lan judgment.

I understand that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is officially launching the government KPI and NKRA programme underpinning his 1Malaysia slogan tomorrow.

To the majority of Malaysians, it would be more important for Najib to convene all-party all-religion round-table conference to demonstrate Malaysian unity and condemnation of religious intolerance giving real meaning to 1Malaysia than to officiate the launching of hollow-sounding Government Transformation Programme.

Tomorrow, Hishammuddin is giving a briefing to Pakatan Rakyat leaders from DAP, PAS and PKR as well as representatives from some NGOs on the government’s proposals on amendments to the Internal Security Act (ISA) expected to tabled in the forthcoming session of Parliament beginning on March 15.

Malaysiakini has reported that 50 persons, including university students and a few foreigners, have been nabbed under the ISA, in “an apparent current-terrorism blitz” – quoting Abolish ISA Movement (GMI) lawyer Edmund Bon that the 50 were detained last Thursday with 38 released the following morning while the rest are still in detention.

In an immediate reaction, the Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam has denied the arrests saying that the Home Ministry is not aware of them.

Home Minister Hishammuddin should clarify whether there is a new round of ISA arrests at the briefing on the proposed ISA amendments tomorrow.

No Compromise On Those Who Desecrate Mosques, Places Of Worship

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry will not compromise on any attempts to desecrate mosques and places of worship, Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.

"We have shown that we will not compromise on this matter. We have shown in the last incidents, whether it involves attacks on mosques or churches, that we are serious about this," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and the Security Services Association of Malaysia here Wednesday.

He was commenting on the dumping of four severed heads of wild boars at two mosques in Petaling Jaya Wednesday morning.

Hishammuddin said the incidents could be the work of individuals who were out to create chaos and racial conflicts in the country.

Issuing a stern warning against those taking advantage of the incidents, he said he hoped that the public would not be taken in by the irresponsible acts.

He added that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan had been ordered to get into the field and monitor the investigations into the matter.

Asked whether police had obtained any lead into the case, Hishammuddin said they were still investigating.

On blogger Aduka Taruna, who allegedly insulted the late Sultan Iskandar in his blog, Hishammuddin said the issue of releasing him did not arise although the blogger had apologised.

"He will have to be brought before the court," he said, adding that police were also investigating several cases in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and CyberSecurity Malaysia.

Re : 1) SOS Batu Caves & World Heritage Site Declaration by

UNESCO

2) Stop Work Order on housing project in Batu Caves Reserve.

3) National Public holiday for Thaipusam

In 1930 even the colonial masters saw and deemed the Batu Caves Hill as a Malaysian heritage and reserved the same as a site for public recreation. But only in 1980 did the UMNO Selangor State government agree to stop quarrying works at Batu Caves and protect the remaining hill and caves.

Finally in 2007, the Federal government declared the 272 hectre Batu Caves Reserve a National Heritage site, affirming the status of Batu Caves as a unique site of national interest. (refer Star Metro 26/1/2010 at page M9 quoting the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS).

However, in 2008 even the (Parti Keadilan Rakyat ruled Selangor state government’s) local government unlawfully permitted housing development right up to the base of the Batu Caves hill directly causing high-rise buildings and billboards to obscure the site.

The newly released Draft Selayang Municipal Council Local Plan 2020 by the PKR led Selangor state government zones the eastern part of the Batu Caves Reserve (Kg Melayu Wira Damai Selatan and Kg. Seri Gombak Tambahan) as high-density housing redevelopment contradicting the protected status accorded to the site under its gazette.

MNS had referred to the Minerals and Geosciences Department’s guidelines that stated that houses should not be built within 250m of the base of the hill (to avoid danger from rock-fall and sinkholes). Should the housing redevelopment plan be carried out it would directly contradict these guidelines, as well as posing a danger to the residents.

The same plan also proposes to put giant “MPS” lettering on the side of the Batu Caves hill which does not seem to serve any purpose other than defacing a natural rock formation for little publicity gain.

We hereby call upon your goodselves to forthwith issue an immediate stop Work Order and thereafter stop all further plan for housing development inside the said Batu Caves Reserve area and to manage this Nature Park reserve in accordance to its recreation rather than housing development.

Malaysia is a very big country measuring 329,845 square kilometers. We are sure that there are hundreds of thousands of other suitable sites that can be found for this housing development. Why then this greed? This our Heritage Batu Caves should be saved and preserved for our future generations.

In the circumstances we call upon your goodselves to:

1) Forthwith issue an immediate Stop Work Order on all development works in the said Batu Caves Hill Reserve Area.

2) The Federal and State Governments of Selangor gives effect to the original 1930 Batu Caves Hill Reservation gazette as a site for public recreation.

3) The Federal and Selangor State governments announces the proposed submission of Batu Caves as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Bearing this Unesco proposal in mind Thaipusam Day be declared a National Public Holiday accordingly with effect from next year (2011) onwards and that Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announces the same accordingly on the eve of Thaipusam this year (29/1/10)when he becomes the first ever Malaysian Prime Minister to visit Batu Caves for Thaipusam

4) Moving forward and in recognition of and as a prelude to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on the pain, suffering, oppression, marginalization and discrimination of the ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia and with the view to a new beginning that would put a stop to all further discrimination and marginalization of especially the ethnic minority Indian community in Malaysia this our aforesaid proposals would go a long way.

5) All unlawful housing or development within the said reserve area

should also be removed and/ or relocated to outside of the boundaries of the Batu Caves Reserve area.

6) Direct the issuance of an urgent circular by the Chief Secretary to the government and the Selangor State Secretary directing the aforesaid authorities that all operations of illegal touts preying on motorcycles, cars, buses and lorries parked and in and around the Batu Caves area especially during the Thaipusam festivities season this year and every year from now onwards put be to a stop.

7) Direct the Traffic Police and the Traffic Wardens from the Selayang Municipal Council to go easy on the issuance of traffic and parking summonses and tamper their enforcement practices with mercy during this year’s and every future year’s Thaipusam festivities as they rightly have been doing in particular during the peak hour weekly Friday prayers outside major mosques nationwide.

Note: Items 6 and 7 has become a yearly occurring complaint with no or very little action having been taken by the aforesaid authorities despite our almost yearly complaints in over the last fifteen years or so.
