The buyers are upset that Selangor mentri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had failed to deliver a concrete solution to their housing woes despite making promises in June.
PETALING JAYA: Irate buyers of a stalled low cost flat block in PJS 1 delivers an ultimatum to Selangor mentri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim; deliver a clear blue print on how the state plans to resolve their woes by next week or risk having the buyers marching to his office.
In a press conference attended by about 30 buyers today, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) treasurer A Sivarajan said the residents were upset that Khalid had failed to deliver a clear resolution how the state plans to build their homes despite making promises in June.
Also present were Block E residents action committee chairman M Sugumaran and Hindraf Makkal Sakthi committee member MS Mahendran.
In June, Selangor exco for housing Iskandar Abdul Samad promised the 276 buyers of the stalled Block E low cost flat block that the state government would build their homes after developer, Peter Brickworks Sdn Bhd reneged on its promise made in 2003.
The matter was also confirmed by Khalid when he met the residents at the Selangor state government office on June 13.
While the majority of the buyers are currently staying at Lembah Subang, some are living at longhouses erected by the developer at PJS 1.
Sivarajan said that the residents were upset that although Khalid had promised to get back to them within four days after a meeting on June 13, they have to receive any response to date.
“After the Selangor Economic Action Council (Mtes) meeting, Khalid met the residents and promised them that he will decide on which land would be used for the housing project and inform them within four days.
“However to date, despite letters sent in August and September, the residents received no response,” said Sivarajan.
Sugumaran, in the meantime, said it was not enough for the state government to provide verbal promises alone to the residents while delaying the project continously.
“We want written guarantee that the state would take over the project. Show us a clear blue print on how do you want to go about the project as well,” he said.
On related matter, longhouse resident S Velan lamented that the Petaling Jaya City Hall (MBPJ) had failed to help buyers living in PJS 1 to clean up the area.
“Our drain keeps overflowing when it rain because the city hall erected an uneven drainage system here. Mosquitoes are breeding here causing health concerns and all our complaints to MBPJ fell on deaf ears.
“Even on Deepavali eve, MBPJ just provided some equipment but the residents did all the hardwork with several PAS members assisting us,” said Velan.
He then questioned Petling Jaya Selatan MP, Hee Loy Sean’s rationale in donating groceries to the longhouse residents for Deepavali when their housing problem remain unresolved.
“When we reminded him of our grouses, he just said the matter is still being discussed. We don’t need petty gifts. Just clean the drains here and build our homes,” said Velan.
