1Malaysia Not Rigid, Says Najib

PUTRAJAYA, July 7 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the values contained in the 1Malaysia concept were not final but would go through a process of enhancement from time to time.

"This concept is not too rigid, (but) evolving as we go along. It's not final as it can be altered and improved.

"It means we can make improvements if we think it's necessary...improve on the values," he said in his address at "An Evening with the Prime Minister" organised by Bakti at Sri Satria, here, Tuesday.

Also present was Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is also the president of Bakti (Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers).

Najib, who is the patron of Bakti, said the 1Malaysia concept was not only based on the three main thrusts but included other important aspirations to take the country to a higher level, in the effort to develop Malaysia into a nation with a high per capita income and a first world nation with a high performance level.

He said the three main thrusts were acceptance, upholding the Constitution and Rukun Negara, and social justice, which meant implementing policies that were fair to all races.

"1Malaysia also outlines good values like mutual respect, humility, moderation and wisdom, as well as aspirations.

"There are seven aspirations but as we go along, if there is a need to add, we are prepared to accept the input. The people can also give their views so that 1Malaysia will really be a concept for all," he said.

Najib said besides the slogan, "1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now", he also emphasised the idea of "One Dream, One People, One Nation".

"This is what 1Malaysia is all about. We have a dream, we are one people and one nation. If we can imbibe this, I can imagine a Malaysia which is stronger and more peaceful and united because as we are building it together.

"I want all Malaysians to feel that they are at the right place.

"I want them to feel a sense of belonging, regardless where they come from, what their religion. This nation is our nation. We are 1Malaysia," he said.

Earlier, Rosmah in her speech said that 1Malaysia complemented the existing approaches in strengthening unity to ensure stability and progress and development for the people and nation.

"In other words, 1Malaysia is a formula which will assist in achieving our national aspirations under the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the country's sixth prime minister," she said.
