Anwar should speak on hudud laws, says Karpal

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 — PKR, through its de facto leader, should speak on the issue of PAS’ intention to introduce hudud laws (Islamic penal code) in the country, said DAP Chairman Karpal Singh.

He said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim cannot afford to remain silent in the face of Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat's stated aim of introducing hudud laws in the country.

“Threatening to go ahead with the introduction of hudud laws in the country in the face of strong opposition by the DAP will be counter-productive to PAS’ own interests,” Karpal said in a statement regarding the issue here today.

The local media yesterday quoted PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa as saying that PAS had not forgotten its aim of implementing the hudud laws in the country. — Bernama
