Allegation of slapping a fabrication, says Barat Maniam

MIC division leader denies slapping ruffian branch chairman; mulls legal action for defamation

PETALING JAYA: MIC PJS Selatan division head V Subramaniam denies the accusation made by MIC Jalan Bukit 11/2 chairman R Krishnamoorthi of slapping him during the 20 th AGM held last Saturday

Subramaniam, better known as Barat Maniam, even denied interfering during the AGM and merely attended to oversee the meeting in the capacity as division leader.

According to Subramaniam the meeting was called in order by the returning officer, K Viswalingam and advised those present to come forward with their identity cards to register their attendance; as it is standard operating procedure to ensure all those attending the meeting are bonafide members of the branch.

At this juncture, Krishnamoorthi aggressively raised his voice and instructed those present not to comply with the request to verify their identity cards.

“He behaved like a ruffian and suddenly grabbed the returning officer’s membership list which was on the table in front of me,” said Subramaniam in a press statement.

“During this time, the returning officer and I requested Krishnamoorthi to return the membership list, as it belongs to the returning officer.

“Krishnamoorthi continued to behave in an uncalled-for manner and used abusive language on the two of us,” he added

After the incident, Viswalingam proceeded to lodge a police report on the same day at the Petaling Jaya police station.

“It is interesting to note that in Tamil Nesan, he is photographed pointing to his right cheek, while in FMT and Makkal Osai, he is photographed pointing to his left cheek,” said Subramaniam

“This clearly shows that his allegation is a mere fabrication to tarnish my name and reputation,” added Subramaniam

Subramaniam has instructed his lawyers to study the matter further and is contemplating to take legal action against the branch chairman
