PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub says the party will only make a stand after receiving an application from the ex-IGP.
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS has not shut the door on former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Musa Hassan from joining the Islamist party despite the allegations levelled against him.
“I don’t want to jump the gun. We’ll cross the bridge when we come there. If there is any application from him, then we will make our stand,” said PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub at the Parliament lobby today.
Yesterday, an online portal reported Musa dismissing speculation that he would be joining PAS or any other political party soon.
He also said that he never supported or joined any party since joining the police force.
But Musa refused to comment when asked if he would become a PAS member if given the chance.
“I cannot speak about the future,” the ex-IGP was reported as saying.
Asked if PAS made a membership offer to Musa recently, Salahuddin replied in the negative.
“So far, we did not make any offer. But if he wants to join PAS, Musa can make an application with us and we will consider,” he said.
Musa, along with Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, were accused of fabricating evidence against former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim during the Sodomy 1 trial in 1998.
The former top cop filed a lawsuit against Anwar in 2008 for accusing him of fabricating evidence but withdrew his suit two days ago, citing a “misunderstanding”.
