Mohamad Nedim Nazri, the son of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, has been cleared of committing affray when he and his bodyguards were stopped from entering a posh Mont Kiara condominium in March by a security firm supervisor.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, in a written reply in Parliament to Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne, said police investigations on Mohamad Nedim's former bodyguard were conducted under Section 160 of the Penal Code.
“The case has been resolved amicably by both parties,” Hishammuddin said in his reply to Loh.
Loh had asked the minister to reveal the results of police investigations against Mohamad Nedim on the assault of a security supervisor and also on the death of a youth, Darren Kang, at Uncle Don's restaurant sometime in 2004.
On the first case, Malaysiakini had reported that two separate police reports were filed by the security supervisor and the bodyguard on the incident, which took place after a security personnel stopped Nazri's son from entering the plush condominium.
The supervisor, in his 50s, said he was assaulted when he asked for the identities of those in a Porsche sports car and a luxury MPV.
Mohamad Nedim was said to be driving the Porsche, followed by a luxury MPV driven by his bodyguard, who then alighted to have his personal particulars recorded on behalf of both drivers.
The bodyguard claimed that the person in the Porsche was a 'Tengku' (a member of the royalty), but a security guard explained the rules of the condominium required the drivers of all vehicles visiting the premises to be registered.
Thais convicted of Kang's death
An argument then ensued, resulting in the supervisor being called in to mediate, and he too explained that the rule was part of the condo management requirements.
This resulted in the Mohamad Nedim (left) alighting from his Porsche, while the bodyguard and his friends assaulted the security supervisor.
A video footage of the fracas was also retrieved from the condo management.
As for the death of Darren Kang, Hishammuddin said in his reply that Mohamad Nedim was not involved in the death and that five Thai nationals were found guilty of manslaughter and had been sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
In the July 6, 2004 incident, Kang, 24, a law student at Britain's Sheffield University, was assaulted after he confronted several people over remarks allegedly made about his fiancee.
