By Haris Ibrahim,
Idiot Deputy Finance Minister Chor Chee Heung says that Proton has been a success because it has achieved the objective of providing affordable cars to Malaysians under the low-income bracket.
“I believe that low-income Malaysians today would not have been able to have their own cars had it not been for Proton”, Staronline quotes him as saying.
Chor, go tell that to the family in the picture above.
Isn’t this a frequent sight on our roads?
Not just in the kampungs, but on the busy streets in the towns and cities?
In the early 80’s, you could buy a brand new Honda Civic for inside of RM14,000.
Then Mahathir announced his ‘made in Malaysia’ car project.
One of his stated objectives was to make a motorcar affordable to the average Malaysian household.
Is the family in the photo above average enough for you, Doc?
Enter the Proton and the price of all other imported vehicles crashed through the ceiling, just to give the fledgling Proton a chance.
Along with the prices of everything else.
Sure, lowest-income households, too, saw an increase in income, in terms of actual ringgit and sen, but that increase was never commensurate with the overall increase in the cost of living.
And the lowest-income households, to this day, have not recovered from Mahathir’s car project.
So, Chor, please don’t talk @#$%
