(Bernama) -- Former Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin has admitted that the opposition is facing a dwindling support of the Malays in Perak, especially in the interior.
He attributed this to the perception that he was a puppet of the DAP when the opposition was in power and that he had committed an act of treachery against the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Perak Sultan Azlan Shah.
Mohammad Nizar, however, felt that generally the opposition still enjoy the support of the people and would win if a fresh state election was held.
He was speaking at a news conference at his residence here today to commemorate the first year anniversary of the takeover of the opposition-led state government by Barisan Nasional through the resignation of two Parti Keadilan Rakyat assemblymen and a DAP assemblyman.
Mohammad Nizar reiterated that the political quagmire in Perak could be resolved through a fresh state election and called on Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir to seek approval from the Sultan of Perak to dissolve the state assembly.
The Federal Court had yet to make a decision on Mohammad Nizar's appeal against the declaration by the Court of Appeal that Zambry was the rightful Besar Perak.
