Nik Aziz’s son-in-law resigns as state firm CEO

By Adib Zalkapli - The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 – Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat today gave in to public pressure and ordered his son-in-law Ariffahmi Abdul Rahman to resign as the CEO of Kelantan Mentri Besar Corporation (PMBK).

But Ariffahmi (picture), who is under the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation, said his withdrawal was not an admission of guilt.

“My resignation does not mean I am guilty, I still deny all the allegations that have been directed at me, only time will tell,” Ariffahmi told The Malaysian Insider.

“I am stepping down as a sign of my loyalty, love and respect to Tuan Guru, and to protect his image and the state administration, I will hand over the resignation letter soon,” he added.

Earlier, at a press conference in Kota Bharu, Nik Aziz announced that Ariffahmi has been asked to step down but did not set any time frame.

The PAS spiritual adviser said he made the decision after consulting other leaders from the party.

The MACC launched its investigations into the state firm and Ariffahmi, who then sacked PMBK corporate liaison officer Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz early this month.

Syed Azidi, who blogs as Kickdefella and is known for his campaign against former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, then accused Ariffahmi of abusing his power when sacking him.

Last week, Syed Azidi claimed that Nik Aziz had ordered Ariffahmi to leave PMBK to avoid further embarrassment to the state administration.

Ariffahmi had denied the allegations, claiming that Syed Azidi, who was also an aide to Datuk Husam Musa, was trying to pressure Nik Aziz.

The conflict in the state investment arm later found its way into the Kelantan government, with Husam claiming that there was a conspiracy to have him remove from the executive council.

Yesterday, Nik Aziz was forced to publicly deny a report that Husam was resigning from the state government.
