KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has set a high benchmark when he was the deputy president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
As such, the deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president said it would not be easy from him to reach the benchmark without the support of the president and party members.
Muhyiddin also expressed his gratitude to Najib for the support and trust accorded to him as the deputy president.
Speaking when opening the Wanita Umno, Umno Youth and Puteri Umno general assemblies here tonight, Muhyiddin said he was committed to helping Najib in implementing the change which the prime minister had outlined for the party.
He said that Najib spearheaded changes and renewal at the government level, which went down well with the people.
This was proven by the people's support to Umno and Barisan Nasional, which won big in the Bagan Pinang by-election, he said.
"We must embrace the spirit of change initiated by the president at the government level while spearheading change in the party," he said.
