MELAKA, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Sacked MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said his group of supporters was willing to discuss about holding only one extraordinary general meeting (EGM).
He said his representative, Central Committee member Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, had discussed the EGM issue with party secretary-general Senator Datuk Wong Foon Meng on Friday.
"We are looking at his (Wong's) resolution and also at our own resolution, and we will discuss on the possibility of holding only one EGM in the interest of the party," Dr Chua said after meeting about 50 of his supporters, including several state MCA leaders, at a restaurant here on Sunday evening.
Wong, in a statement today, had called on party members who requested for an EGM to be convened, to be rational and adhere to the party constitution.
Dr Chua, however, said that he did not want his side to be duped with regards to the resolution for only one EGM to be held.
Asked on the signatures he managed to collect from the central delegates to hold an EGM, he said to date, he already had 1,100 signatures.
However, he said, there were those who signed but requested that their names not be exposed for fear of a backlash from the fiery party president (Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat).
Dr Chua also claimed that Ong during his visits, including to Sabah, had defamed him and called him vile names, and would use the party's disciplinary board to destroy his political career.
He said a number of Sabah MCA leaders were willing to come forward to reveal what Ong had said about him.
"I wish to tell Ong that doing this will not win him support from the party delegates and the Chinese community."
Dr Chua also claimed that Ong as an MCA leader, was not afraid of anyone.
