IPOH, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The deputy national Wanita MIC chief, S. Thangasvari, 61, today offered herself as a candidate to vie for her chief Datin Paduka K.Komala's post in the party polls on Aug 16.
"I have received support from Perak, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, Melaka and Sabah. States which want change in the party.
"The wishes of the grassroots is that the party be strengthened and I am confident of doing so as I have the experience having been the Perak Wanita MIC chief for nine years," she said at a news conference here Monday.
Thangasvari is graduate of Universiti Sains Malaysia and began a career as a teacher in 1971 until 1997. She then read law and became a practitioner in 1998.
Meanwhile, her ally, Dr P. Tanaletchumy, has offered herself as a candidate for the deputy Wanita MIC's post.
Tanaletchumy is the Negeri Sembilan Wanita MIC chief has been in the party for 19 years and is also a central Wanita MIC exco member.
"My vision is to unite Indian women in the country by going to the grassroots and bring a new image to the movement," she said.
Nomination of the candidates will be on Aug 8 and party elections during the annual general meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur
