SHAH ALAM, July 16 (Bernama) -- Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong Thursday was present at the Selangor contingent police headquarters to give his statement regarding allegations in his blog that a certain Selangor exco member had used his office as a meeting place for people connected with underground business activities.
Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the police have started investigations under Section 233 of the Multimedia Act, and the case was being investigated by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department.
"Even so, the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will continue their investigations. We will call up more witnesses to help," he told reporters at his office, here today.
Khalid said police will investigate the matter under Section 233 to allow them authority to call witnesses and ask for related documents.
"Without this authority we cannot demand for documents and call upon witnesses. If we find any elements in the course of investigations, the case will be reclassified," he said.
He said so far one police report was received on the matter and it was made based on a report in the New Straits Times (NST) on Monday.
When asked about two officers from the vice, gambling and secret society branch (D7) who had recorded Choo Keong's statement, Khalid said there was no specific reason why those officers were chosen to do the job and that it was just division of tasks.
Earlier, Choo Keong arrived at the Selangor police headquarters at around 12.30pm to have his statement recorded until 2.25pm.
When met afterwards, he said the police had asked him various questions including the name of the exco member linked to the allegations and others involved.
"I gave my statement and surrendered all documents and evidence that I had. I am sure it is enough to help the police to carry out investigations. I believe they also have their own information," he said.
Choo Keong said after the allegations were made through his blog, weechookeong.blogspot.com, and then reported in the media, he had received advice from friends and other individuals to stop the accusations.
He said he was also disappointed with Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu, who had challenged him to reveal the name of the exco member involved through the media on July 15.
"Why must he (Ronnie) feel scared and angry by attacking me and bringing up the past. I did not name the exco member involved, so he does not need to challenge me," he said.
