T'ganu man accused of planning temple attack to be tried in KL

Malaysiakini

The Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court has consented to an application by prosecutors to transfer the trial of a man, facing eight terrorism charges, to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The ruling was made by Sessions Court judge Nooriah Osman.

Mahadi Mamat, 33, was charged under various subsections of Section 130 of the Penal Code which relates to terrorism.

He was accused of procuring a Czech-made CZ 75 pistol, 15 bullets and six pipe bombs with the intention of committing terrorist activities.

He was also accused of planning to assassinate four high-profile Malaysian citizens in an instant messaging group titled "Sejati Sejiwa".

According to the facts of the case, Mahadi was arrested on suspicion of planning an attack on the Sri Mahamariamman Seafield temple in Subang Jaya.

The temple was the centre of a land dispute which later resulted in several nights of rioting. One fire and rescue personnel Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim died after suffering injuries at the scene.

According to Bukit Aman's anti-terrorism division director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, Mahadi was accused of leading a terrorist cell which has been dismantled.

The accused was detained and questioned for 28 days under Section 4(1) Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

Mahadi will remain in custody at the Sungai Buloh prison until his case is up for mention at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

"The police are always on the look-out for wayward individuals who can threaten public order.

"We urge the public to report extremist elements to the police to help us maintain peace and harmony," Ayob Khan told Malaysiakini.

Damaging temple statues: Medical grad freed

Psychiatrist confirms that accused suffers from bipolar disorder and did not know he was committing an offence at the time.

A medical graduate charged with damaging statues of Hindu deities at the Sree Muneeswaran Amman Kovil Temple here last April was acquitted after he was found to be mentally unsound when committing the act.

Sessions Court Judge Ikmal Hishan Mohd Tajuddin, in his judgment, said it was clearly proven that the accused Fathi Munzir Nadzri, 29, committed the offence, but a psychiatrist confirmed that he was suffering from “Bipolar Affective Disorder with Psychotic Features Manic Phase”.

“Yes, he did it, but on the balance of probabilities, he was found to have done it while he was in an unstable state of mind and did not know that he was committing an offence.

“As such, the accused is acquitted under Section 347 of the Criminal Procedure Code with a warning according to (Act 593) Section 348 Criminal Procedure Code for the safe custody of person acquitted,” the judge said.

The court also acquitted and discharged Fathi Munzir on the charge of possessing a machete on the same date and place.

“On the possession of the machete, several doubts were raised, including the testimony of the main witness who said he saw the accused carrying something like a rod and not a machete, and that the seized weapon was not checked for fingerprints,” he said.

Fathi Munzir was charged with causing damage to the statues at the temple located in front of Angsana Mall shopping centre and being in possession of a machete about 5pm on April 24.

On the charge of damaging the statues under Section 295 of the Penal Code, Fathi Munzir could have been sentenced up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

For possessing the machete, the accused was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which provides a maximum of 10 years’ jail and whipping, upon conviction.

On April 29, the court ordered Fathi Munzir to undergo an examination and treatment for a month at Hospital Bahagia.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab while the accused was represented by Tun Mohamad Ammar Aziz.

Muslim preacher Zakir Naik allegedly offered M'sian citizenship, says report

PETALING JAYA: Controversial Muslim scholar Dr Zakir Naik (pic) has been given a Malaysian citizenship, according to an article published in the Hindustan Times

Naik, who has preached and conducted programmes in Malaysia before, was also alleged by the report to be currently hiding here after his Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) was recently banned by Indian authorities.

He is also under investigation by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), who are closely monitoring his whereabouts and have reportedly prevented his family members from leaving the country.

The report quoted one of Naik’s representatives as confirming the development, saying that the Malaysian citizenship was offered as a package deal to the Muslim preacher when he was awarded the Tokoh Ma’al Hijrah title back in 2013.

“It is the state policy of Malaysia to offer citizenship to the awardees of the highest civilian honour of their land. Naik is now a Malaysian citizen too,” the Hindustan Times quoted the unnamed representative as saying.

The report also alleged that Naik, a renowned televangelist, was holed up in Malaysia as a tactic to avoid the NIA investigations.

He was earlier suspected by authorities of being either in Thailand or Africa.

On Friday, Naik issued a statement criticising the move to ban his IRF organisation and the subsequent case against him.

He stressed that he had always advocated peace and condemned violence of any form during his public speeches.

A separate report published by the Hindustan Times quoted him as saying that the probe against him would have been a non-issue if government investigators had done “a thorough job”.

“I expected professional investigators from government agencies to do a thorough job. Had they done so, this issue would have been a no-brainer, a non-issue.

“But I guess that was not the plan. The plan was to ban, not investigate,” he said in the statement.

NIA officials had in recent days conducted raids at 20 commercial and residential properties reportedly belonging to Naik, and had seized several official documents.

Among others, the documents showed that the IRF had purportedly given an Rs80,000 (RM5200) scholarship to Abu Anas, a Rajasthan native who was arrested in January while he was allegedly planning to go to Syria to fight for the Islamic State.

Malaysian authorities could not be immediately reached for comment on the alleged citizenship offered to Naik.

Two charged with plotting terror attacks in JB

The two men are accused of plotting an attack on a temple and nightclubs in Johor between June 27 and July 2.

BATU PAHAT: Two men were produced today in the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court on charges of plotting an attack on a temple and nightclubs in Johor Bahru between June 27 and July 2.

Md Saifuddin Muji, 28, and Jasanizam Rosni, 33, were accused of committing the offence at an unnumbered house in Taman Waja, Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, with the intention of carrying out the attacks together.

They were charged under Section 130JD of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Mohd Sanusi Satar, 31, was charged with intentionally refraining from disclosing information on the offence.

He allegedly committed the offence at No 5, Jalan Manis 1/3, Taman Manis, Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, between July 1 and Aug 8.

He was charged with committing the offence under Section 130M of the Penal Code which carries a jail term not exceeding seven years, or a fine, or both if convicted.

Meanwhile, Md Saifuddin also faced a charge of possessing on Aug 11, a black flag with Jawi inscriptions associated with the Daesh (Islamic State) militant group.

He was alleged to have committed the offence under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, and upon conviction, would be liable to imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine, as well as have the material seized.

No plea was recorded for all the three charges.

Magistrate Mohd Zulhilmi Ibrahim fixed Sept 28 for mention of the cases.

Earlier today, Md Saifuddin pleaded guilty to possessing an M67 grenade at No 108, Kampung Parit Gantung, Sri Merlung, Rengit, near here, on Aug 11.

He was accused under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a jail term not exceeding 14 years and at least six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

For this charge, Mohd Zulhilmi set Sept 8 for mention.

The cases were brought forward by DPP Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor. The three accused were unrepresented.

The white British ISIS child executioner: Horrific propaganda video appears to show blue-eyed boy with jihadi fighter name 'Abu Abdullah Al-Britani' shooting a prisoner in the head in Syria

A chilling new video from ISIS shows a British boy and four other children executing prisoners in cold blood in Syria.

The grotesque nine-minute video is believed to have been recorded recently in the ISIS capital of Raqqa, in Syria, and shows the organisation is becoming even more brutal as it retreats into its heartland.
The British boy (second from the right) is identified as Abu Abdullah al-Britani
The video shows five boys - believed to be from Britain, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and Uzbekistan, wielding handguns and wearing the desert camouflage.

One of the youngsters makes a blood-curdling shriek in Arabic and slaps one of the terrified captives on his shaved head before they raise their guns and kill the five men, thought to be Kurdish fighters who were captured during a battle.

The Sun reported the British boy was identified only as Abu Abdullah al-Britani. He is white, blue-eyed and aged around 12.

He and the other children copy five older jihadists who execute prisoners in orange jumpsuits and butcher them with knives.

The age of criminal responsibility in Britain is 10 so if the boy was captured and sent back to Britain to face justice he could be prosecuted for murder.
The British boy (second from right, in camouflage) shows all the signs of being brainwashed
Dozens of British jihadists are believed to be fighting for ISIS in Syria and Iraq under the nom de guerre al-Britani, which simply means British in Arabic.

Last year Assad Uzzaman, 25, from Portsmouth, was killed in Syria while using the name al-Britani.
The horrific video shows the boys, who are all aged around 12 or 13, executing prisoners with handguns
ISIS has been increasingly using child soldiers - known as the 'Cubs of the Caliphate' amid speculation it is running low on manpower as it retreats from positions in Syria and Iraq and falls back on its stronghold, around Raqqa.

The Quilliam Foundation reported this year that around 50 British children are 'growing up on jihad' and being groomed to become ISIS fighters.

Artist-turned-militant jailed 12 years for supporting terror activities

KUALA LUMPUR: An artist-turned-militant was sentenced to 12 years jail by a High Court here for giving support to terror activities.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Nordin Hassan meted out the sentence after Fauzee Ahmad (pic), 48, pleaded guilty Tuesday.

"I don't want the youth in Malaysia to be influenced by your actions and leave their families and responsibilities here to fight a religious war," JC Nordin told Fauzee.

"So the court has a duty not just to hand down a sentence but also to send a message to individuals to make sure they do not commit the same crime."

He added that militants had become a global issue and will destroy the stability and peace of our country and create chaos.

"We don't want to see terrorist stepping into our country."

JC Nordin ordered the sentence to run from the day of Fauzee's arrest on Oct 27, 2014.

Fauzee was calm when the sentence was handed out to him for taking part in terrorist activities involving firearms and explosives in Syria between June 29 and Sept 18, 2014.

His actions were seen to be advancing a religious struggle that endangered the lives of Syrian citizens.

He was charged under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code for knowingly entering Syria and giving support to a terrorist cause.

Fauzee's lawyer Eric Paulsen in pleading for leniency asked for a sentence between five to nine years in prison.

He said that Fauzee had a wife and six children, three of whom are still in school.

Paulsen added that his client went to Syria as an artist with the intention to paint the chaos and cruelty caused by the regime there over the Syrian people and was misguided into taking part in the fight there.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mustaffa P. Kunyalam sought a prison sentence that is proportionate to the facts of the case and asked for not less than 10 years jail time.

Mustaffa added that the court must take judicial notice that there has been an increase in terrorist related cases with the expansion of Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist groups.

He added that public interest, which was more important than the interest of the accused, must be taken into account in the case.

Housewife among four charged with terror-related offences

KUALA LUMPUR: A housewife has claimed trial in a High Court here to possessing items related to terrorist activities in March this year.

Siti Nor Intan Shafinaz Johari, 27, was brought before High Court judge Justice Azman Abdullah to have the charge read to her.

She allegedly committed the offence at a house in Kampung Ujung Tanjung, Kuala Perlis, Kangar at about 8.15am on March 22 and was charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.

She later claimed trial to the charge Friday. The court then fixed June 29 for mention.

Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam was the deputy public prosecutor while counsel Farida Mohammad appeared for the accused.

In Judicial Commissioner Ab Karim Ab Rahman's court, the court has fixed June 24 for mention of a case involving businessman Muhammad Saiful Hashim, 35, who was charged with having items related to terrorist activities.

The offence, under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, was said to have committed at a house in Jalan Sekolah Derma, Kangar, Perlis, on March 22.

He also faces another charge of having six fake RM10 notes at the same place, day and time and was charged under Section 489C of the same Code.

Meanwhile, Judicial Commissioner Mohd Nordin Hassan fixed Aug 9 as the next mention date for a case of policewoman Kpl Jusninawati Abdul Gani, 35, who was accused of intentionally omitting information on terrorism acts at the Petaling Jaya police station between 2015 and March 22.

She was charged under Section 130M of the Code.

The other accused, Anuar Ab Rawi, 40, was charged with possessing items related to terrorism activities at Taman Manir Indah in Kampung Banggol Tuan Muda, Manir, in Kuala Terengganu at 8.48am on March 22.

‘Please help me. This is my last chance’: Japanese journalist held hostage by Muslim group begs his government to save him

'Please help me. This is my last chance': Japanese journalist held hostage by Al Qaeda begs his government to save him a year after he was captured in Syria

A Japanese journalist captured by Al Qaeda in Syria has appeared in a new photograph begging his government to save him.

The picture, apparently posted online yesterday, showed a bearded Jumpei Yasuda dressed in orange holding a hand-written sign in Japanese.

The message, written in shaky characters and signed with his name, read: 'Please help me. This is my last chance'.

The Japanese government said today it was doing all it could to secure his release.

Yasuda's plight came to world attention in March when a video surfaced showing him reading a message to his country and his family.

Japanese media said he was captured by Al Qaeda affiliate, the Nusra Front, after entering Syria from Turkey last June.

Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said the government was analysing the new photograph and believed it was Yasuda.

Chief Cabinet Spokesman Yoshihide Suga said the government was doing what it could to help, adding: 'Since preserving the safety of Japanese citizens is our most important duty, we are making use of a broad net of information and doing everything we can to respond.'

Asked if this meant

Early in 2015, ISIS beheaded two Japanese nationals: a self-styled security consultant and a veteran war reporter.
The gruesome executions captured the attention of Japan, but the government said at the time it would not negotiate with the militants for their release.

Yasuda, a freelance journalist since 2003, was held in Baghdad in 2004 and drew criticism for drawing the Japanese government into negotiations for his release.

In December, media freedom organisation Reporters Without Borders retracted and apologised for a report it had issued that said Yasuda had been threatened with execution in Syria.

The government said at the time it was seeking information.

Nabbed IS supporter a safety expert on Malaysian VIP flights, says security official

PETALING JAYA: One of the 15 suspected Islamic State (IS) supporters arrested in Malaysia has been revealed as a senior aviation technician for a firm that serviced aircraft used by the nation’s corporate and political leaders.

The suspect, aged 49, is a former flight engineer for the Royal Malaysian Air Force, a regional security source told the South China Morning Post.

“The suspect is a senior technician whose responsibility was to check that an aircraft is safe for use. He is the person who gives the green light whether an aircraft is safe to take off or not,” said the security official.

The aircraft maintenance company services chartered aircrafts for domestic flights for so-called “VVIPs”, a term often used to describe passengers who are corporate and political leaders. The suspect worked there for 13 years, according to the official.

He was arrested in late March along with 14 other suspects in an operation covering six states as well as the capital Kuala Lumpur.

The other 14 suspects have all been charged in court, but investigations into the aviation engineer are continuing.

“He has conducted religious classes where he propagated ISIS ideology,” said the official.

“He is known to actively support IS via his Facebook account. He has shown IS videos on his mobile phone to his friends with the aim of promoting IS.”

An Airbus A321 operated by Russia’s Metrojet crashed in the Sinai in 31 October 2015, killing all 224 people on board. Russia and Western governments have said the plane was likely brought down by a bomb, and the IS militant group said it had smuggled an explosive on board.

Reuters reported in January that an EgyptAir mechanic, whose cousin joined Islamic State in Syria, is suspected of planting the bomb, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The official said the Malaysian technician’s links to ISIS “was very worrying.” “He could easily sabotage an aircraft. He could also put bombs or smuggle weapons onto a plane,” said the official.

Counter-terrorism experts described the technician as a potential “insider threat”.

“This is a matter for concern because this is precisely what I and others have referred to as the ‘insider threat’ of transnational terrorism,” said Associate Professor Kumar Ramakrishna, head of policy studies at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies Singapore.

The “insider threat” is dangerous as it enables IS to attack targets from within the system, by recruiting already self-radicalised individuals in sensitive jobs, said Prof Kumar.

“Such a person would have the ability, at least in theory, to sabotage an aircraft with VVIPs on board either through by deliberately tampering with onboard systems, causing them to fail in mid-flight, or by placing an improvised explosive device onboard, assuming that he can gain access to one, or has the ability make one himself,” said Prof Kumar.

Such an insider also had the potential to directly assassinate a target, “because the person presumably would have the necessary security clearance already and would hence be less likely to attract attention. This is why enhanced and more regular security screenings are required in certain sensitive sectors,” he said.

The engineer is the second suspect in the aviation industry to have been arrested by Malaysian police over their alleged support for IS.

Last year, an armed auxiliary police officer who handled the screening of explosives and dangerous goods at the KL International Airport was arrested.

He is alleged to have helped facilitate his brother-in-law’s departure to Syria to fight for IS by escorting him to immigration, where the officer’s presence helped ensure there would be less scrutiny paid to the passenger’s final destination.

To date, Malaysian police have arrested more than 160 IS suspects. At least 19 Malaysians are known to have died in Iraq and Syria fighting for IS, some of them as suicide bombers.

Sri Lankan, two Russians with terror links nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Three foreigners, including two Russians, were detained for suspected terror links to various groups, including the Islamic State (IS).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the suspects, who also include a Sri Lankan national, were detained in special operations on March 28 and April 22 in Selangor by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division.

“The Russians, aged 23 and 25, were of Chechen descent. They were once arrested by Turkish authorities in February for suspected involvement with terror groups in Syria.

“They were deported and entered Malaysia in March,” he said in a statement Friday.

The duo were deported to Russia on Friday, added the IGP.

The third suspect – a 42-year-old Sri Lankan national – was detained in the Klang Valley for issuing death threats to the Sri Lankan president and prime minister via Facebook.

Isis buries dozens of jihadists alive as punishment for escaping battlefront near Kirkuk

The Islamic State (Isis) has reportedly executed more than three dozen of its jihadists after they decided not to fight and escaped during a battle against Kurdish Peshmerga forces. Local news sources claim that 35 to 45 militants were buried alive as punishment for their cowardice in the face of conflict.

An unnamed provincial source told AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA) that the terrorists buried 35 fellow extremists alive on the outskirts of Qayyarah after they were accused of running away from the attack against pro-government Iraqi forces in Bashir, a village south of the Iraqi city of Kirkuk.

The number of jihadists executed is still ambiguous. While one source mentioned 35, Iraqi media activist Munzer Ismail told ARA News that the number was larger. "At least 45 jihadists were buried alive for escaping the battlefront southern Kirkuk," Ismail reported, citing eyewitnesses from Qayyarah.

Isis suffered severe losses of in terms of manpower and equipment during the clash and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces were able to liberate the village of Bashir.

This is the first time the militant group has executed its own soldiers by burying them alive. Kurdish journalist Bawer Khalil opined: "This mass execution of jihadists indicates that Isis is now suffering mounting disputes from within."

Daesh has been carrying out numerous executions of deserters and treason. As many as 35 members were accused of conspiracy and killed by firing squad at the Ghazlani military camp near Mosul on 28 February. More recently on 8 May, two Islamists were executed in Mosul on charges of treason and a day later dozens more were shot dead in the village of al-Hadar.

Tell me what you think of these photos??

By Siti Kassim

Tell me what you think of these photos?? I am extremely disturbed by these...
Apparently these photos were on Instagram posted by a teacher from a kindergarten in Kota Damansara!! It's called Tadika Bistari. The teacher and the kids are holding weapons! Maybe plastic but a kindergarden? In a pre-school? WTF is she teaching??
They are from this school called KUDQI (Kolej University Darul Quran Islamiyah). I was told its a branch of Jemaah Islamiyah! Their headquarters is in Terengganu.
What kind of Islam do you think they are teaching the kids you think? I hope the authorities will look into this....

WATCH: ISIS in Philippines Beheads Canadian John Ridsdel

By Sam Prince

In a new video purportedly released by Islamic State affiliate Abu Sayyaf, Canadian hostage John Ridsdel is beheaded after Canada’s refusal to pay the terrorists his ransom. The brutal video was released on ISIS terrorist channels on May 3 under the title “Abu Sayyaf Hostage BEHEADED Pt.1.” News of his death first broke in late April.

Ridsdel appeared in a ransom video released in November 2015 by Abu Sayyaf, the second time he was forced on camera following his kidnapping in September. He appeared along with Robert Hall, also of Canada, and Kjartan Sekkingstad of Norway. A third woman in the video, who appeared Filipino, did not speak. It was unclear if she was a hostage, too. Watch that video here.

In March, Abu Sayyaf set a one-month deadline in another video threat, then released a final 10-day warning in mid April, setting April 25 as the last date to receive a ransom payment before a hostage would be killed. Ridsdel’s death was reported on April 25.

Abu Sayyaf means “father of the swordsmith” in Arabic. According to The International Business Times, senior Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and other masked men pledged their allegiance to ISIS in a summer of 2014 video.

In the latest video, ISIS crudely beheads Ridsdel. Watch the video above. Viewer discretion is advised.

Al-Aqsa Mosque Address: May the Muslims Wage War on America

Speaking at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Palestinian Arab researcher calls on Muslims to pray that Allah will enable them to wage war on America.

In a recent address at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a Palestinian Arab political researcher launched a verbal tirade against the United States.

The researcher, Ahmad Al-Khatwani, also known as "Abu Hamza", declared that Muslims should pray that Allah will enable them to wage war on America and vanquish it.

Abu Hamza also expressed his desire that the Muslims "raid America on its own land." The address was given on February 18, 2015, and was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

“What is the way to confront this American war on Islam? It is by treating Islam in a political manner, on the basis of the Islamic creed in its political sense. If the Muslims accept Islam as a political and ideological foundation and guide, they will be able to confront America and its war on the Muslims, and they will be able to vanquish it with ease,” Al-Khatwani said.

“We pray that Allah will enable the Muslims to wage war on America and against its true terrorism. May He grant victory to the Muslims, and may they raid America on its own land and the land of heresy everywhere,” he added.

Radical Muslims often use addresses and sermons at the Al-Aqsa Mosque for purposes of incitement.

Examples include a rally last year in which members of radical Islamic organization Hizb ut-Tahrir called upon the army of Pakistan and the Islamic nation to liberate Jerusalem from “Jewish filth”.

In another incident, a preacher at the mosque engaged in blatant incitement against Jews and Israel and declared, “I say to the Jews: the time for your slaughter has come.”

Brits pledge over £18,000 to defend 'Jihad Johnny'

Few in the Western world would deny even the most despicable of characters a valid legal defense to defend themselves of crimes accused in a court of law. Yet what has many in the United Kingdom raising their eyebrows are the reports bubbling to the surface regarding a number of Britons raising the equivalent of $27,000 to defend the individual dubbed "Jihad Johnny" by the international press, and identified by the British government as the executioner of a number of American, British, and Japanese citizens.

As reported by The Sunday Times (of London, UK) and also by the ITN British television network, both on March 7, 2015, a London-based advocacy group that goes by the nom d' Internet of CAGE has managed to cull well over £18,000 to defend 'Jihad Johnny' from "harassment" at the hands of the British government. For their part, the British government's Charity Commission has pledged to take "robust action" in their demand that the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Roddick Foundation immediately cease and desist "all current and future donations to the group."

While seeking to "address the root causes of conflict and injustice," the Rowntree Foundation has pumped £305,000 ($450,000) to CAGE between 2007 and 2014. Meanwhile, the self-described "progressive" Roddick Foundation has sent £120,000 ($180,500) to CAGE's coffers between 2009 and 2012.

Nonetheless, CAGE has managed to garner thousands of pounds from their internet plea for funds to defend Kuwaiti-born British citizen Mohammed Emwazi, whom the media has dubbed "Jihad Johnny." To his infamy, Emwazi was identified by British anti-terrorism services as the very same masked jihadist who appeared in more than one video slowly decapitating helpless captives in the name of an ISIS global Islamic Caliphate in the making.

For their part, CAGE describes themselves on their internet site as "working to empower communities impacted by the War on Terror." Specific pages include sympathetic biographies not only of Emwazi, but also the likes of Samer Hilmi Abdel al-Barq, Ali Saleh Alkohlah al-Marri, and numerous other individuals who have either been on the run from authorities or currently jailed for active participation in Islamic jihad. The CAGE site also has a specific section titled "Memorizing the Qur'an: A Practicle Guide for Prisoners".

France: Four Arrested over Paris Kosher Supermarket Attack

France: Four Arrested over Paris Kosher Supermarket Attack

By Arutz Sheva

Four people have been detained over their connections to one of the Islamist terrorists who carried out the Paris attacks in January, a judicial source said on Monday.

The four are said to be friends with Amedy Coulibaly, who killed four people at a Jewish supermarket and a policewoman during the January 7-9 attacks.

Europe 1 radio reported that one of those detained was a policewoman posted at Rosny-sous-Bois just outside Paris who converted to Islam two years ago. She was suspended from her duties in early February.

She was detained along with her boyfriend, a man said to have been close to Coulibaly and who is also wanted on separate drug charges.

Phone records indicate he was in close proximity to Coulibaly shortly before the attack on the supermarket.

Le Canard Enchaine, a weekly paper, said the man may have had access to his girlfriend's police barracks at Rosny.

No details have yet been released on the other two people detained.

Four other people were held for questioning at the end of January, suspected of providing arms and vehicles to Coulibaly.

Others - including Coulibaly's girlfriend Hayat Boumeddiene - are thought to have fled to Syria.

Two people have also been charged over their links to the Kouachi brothers who carried out the shootings at the Charlie Hebdo magazine in the same week, leaving 12 dead.

Fritz-Joly Joachin was arrested in Bulgaria and Cheikhou Diakhaby was detained in Turkey - both believed to be on route to Syria, and extradited back to France.

Fury over charities that fund ISIS killer Jihadi John apologists: Calls for end to grants for 'warped' human rights group

  • Campaign group Cage described Jihadi John as 'beautiful' person
  • Lord Carlile, a former reviewer of anti-terror legislation said there are 'serious concerns' surrounding the group
  • Added that he would never advise donating money to organisation
  • Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust has given £305,000 to Cage
By Larisa Brown and Ian Drury for the Daily Mail

Charities were last night urged to stop funding a ‘warped’ human rights group that supports Islamic State killer Jihadi John.

Politicians said Cage had acted reprehensibly in describing knife-wielding fanatic Mohammed Emwazi as a ‘beautiful young man’.

The group, led by former Guantanamo Bay inmate Moazzam Begg, has been propped up largely by grants of £305,000 from the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.

Another charity, set up in memory of Body Shop tycoon Anita Roddick, has handed over £120,000 to Cage. Much of the rest of the group’s income comes from cash donations from Muslims.

Lord Carlile, a former independent reviewer of anti-terror legislation, said he had serious concerns about Cage and would never advise giving it money.

‘Cage is an organisation with a warped view,’ he said. ‘No sensible person should be funding it.’

As questions were being asked as to how Emwazi was allowed to reach Syria, it also emerged that:

The fall-out from the extraordinary Cage press briefing about Emwazi – carried live on the BBC and Sky – continued to reverberate around Westminster yesterday.

On Thursday, Mr Qureshi, the group’s research director, who lives in a £530,000 semi-detached house in Surrey, wiped away tears as he described Emwazi, a 26-year-old Kuwaiti who grew up in London, as ‘extremely gentle’ and ‘the most humble young person that I ever knew’.

A video has surfaced of the Muslim activist who described ISIS executioner Jihadi John as 'a beautiful man' supporting Jihad at an anti-US rally in London.

Asim Qureshi, leader of campaign group CAGE, was filmed urging protesters to 'support the jihad of our brothers and sisters' in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and Chechnya.

Yesterday, Qureshi, who helped to name ISIS militant Jihadi John as west London student Mohammed Emwazi, caused outrage by saying the murderer was 'beautiful' adding that he 'wouldn't hurt a fly'.

But Reg Henning, brother of British aid worker Alan Henning who died at Jihadi John's hands, hit back and said: 'If he's a "beautiful, kind man", why is he killing innocent civilians?

'He's a monster. Everyone should be doing everything they can to capture him and bring him to justice - not stick up for him like he's been hard done by.'

Speaking while close to tears at a press conference this afternoon, he blamed MI5 for radicalising Emwazi, saying the security services harassed him and alienated him.

In the earlier footage, Qureshi can be seen speaking through a microphone at the pan-Islamic Hizb ut-Tahrir movement rally.

He says: 'When we see the example of our brothers and sisters fighting in Chechnya, Iraq, Palestine, Kashmir, Afghanistan, then we know where the example lies.
