deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former president of Parti
Gerakan Malaysia, Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik, who died yesterday.
The Prime Minister said Dr Lim was a man of great character whose absence left the country poorer.
"In a illustrious career that spanned five decades, Tun Dr Lim proved to be an inspirational politician driven by a deep commitment to public service," he said in a statement today.
Najib said as a Cabinet minister for 22 years, Dr Lim served with distinction and played a big part in the country's transormation, helping to build a stable and properous society.
"All Malaysians owe him a debt of gratitude. Tun Dr Lim was not just a great leader, but a great Malaysian.
"He was a fighter to the end and we will miss him. Our thoughts now are with his family and close friends," he said.
Dr Lim died at his residence at the Tropicana Country Resort, Petaling Jaya at 4.45pm yesterday.
He was 73.
He is survived by his wife, Toh Puan Wong Yoon Chuan and three children.
