VLADIVOSTOK (Russia), Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Two Malaysian students were killed and five others injured in a road accident in Russia late Sunday night, according to the Malaysian ambassador, Datuk Zainol Abidin Omar.

He identified the students as Hanisah Muhd Shah, a Mara-sponsored student from Dungun, Terengganu, and Adzreen Binyati, a Public Service Department-sponsored student from Putrajaya.

The two girls, both fifth-year students at the Nishny Novgorod State Medical Academy, were travelling in a van with five other female university mates from the Moscow airport to Vladimirskaya when the accident occurred, he said.

He said the students had just returned from Malaysia after the Aidilfitri break to start the new semester.

Zainol Abidin said Hanisah was killed on the spot while Adzreen died on the way to hospital.

He said the van the students were travelling in collided head-on with another van.

Zainal Abidin said the other five students were getting treatment at a hospital in Vladimirskaya.

He identified them as Siti Nadiah Abdullah Sani, Nurul Amirah Mohd Nor, Nor Hidayah Jailuddin, Nur Liyana Kamarul Bahrin and Siti Romeza Abdul Raza.

Releasing the details to Malaysian journalists covered APEC 2012, Zainal Abidin said immediate help had been offered to the students following a report from one of them on the accident.

"All help will be given to the students at the hospital while immediate arrangements are being made to bring home the bodies of the two students," he said. "This is a terrible tragedy and a first here," he said.

He also said that the families of all the students had been notified of the accident.

"They are still in shock as only hours ago the students had left Kuala Lumpur," he said.
