MIC Youth Exco Member Shot At Coffeeshop

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- MIC Youth Exco member A.Kalaiarasu was shot in the stomach and hand while having drinks with friends at a coffeeshop in Jalan Datuk Harun, Kajang on Wednesday.

Kajang police chief ACP Sakaruddin Che Mood said Kalaiarasu, 49, was shot with an automatic pistol by a man with a full helmet and black jacket at 6.45pm.

"Kalaiarasu was hit with two shots to the body. The assailant escaped with an accomplice waiting on a motorycle," he told Bernama.

He then fled via the coffeeshop back door and sought help at Kajang police station about 200 metres from the scene of the attack.

"Kalaiarasu lodged a report and was then rushed to Kajang Hospital. He told police the suspects in their 20s escaped on a motorycle but he could not remember the number plate."

Sakaruddin said Kalaiarasu was in stable condition adding police would be recording statements from witnesses at the scene soon.

The case is investigated under Section 307 of Penal Code for attempted murder.
