Two fights reported in Hulu Selangor

(Bernama) - Campaigning for Hulu Selangor by-election may be eight days away but police have already received two reports of fights involving supporters of political parties.

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said one occurred during the visit of MIC president Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu to Taman Bukit Teratai recently while the other was at Kuala Kubu Bahru.

He said the cases were investigated under Section 323 of Penal Code. The political parties were not named.

"We are investigating the cause and had recorded statements from those involved. More will be recorded soon," he told reporters today after visiting Selayang Hospital in conjunction with Police Day.

Khalid urged the people to abide the law by refraining from taking action that could affect public order and the democratic process.

He denied claims by certain quarters that the Selangor crime index dropped because many victims did not lodge police reports.

"They can prove them right by asking the victims to lodge police reports. The crime index dropped due to the commitment of authorities in crime fighting assisted by the public who acted as our eyes and ears."

He added police were also tracking down several housebreaking gangs which prey on those living in outskirt areas like Sepang and Hulu Selangor.
