KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth executive committee member Datuk Sohaimi Shahadan has denied that he had instigated the cow's head protest against a temple relocation proposal in Shah Alam on Aug 28.
Sohaimi, who is also Selayang Umno division chief, said although he took part in the protest march to the state secretariat from the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam, he was not behind it.
"As I left the mosque after Friday prayers, I saw Section 23 residents were gathering while several friends of mine were distributing fliers to the people.
"After reading the flier, I decided to join the protest march in a show of support for the residents over their predicament," he told a news conference here Friday.
Sohaimi said he was shocked when a man placed a cow's head at the gate of the state secretariat before it was removed as instructed by the police.
"The issue had been sensationalised by the opposition and the Selangor government. The question of insulting other religions and races does not arise," he said.
