KUANTAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he wanted his successor to inherit a strong party.
Najib, who is also Umno President, said it was a mission he was tasked with the responsibility to ensure that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government continued to be the backbone of prosperity and well-being of the people.
"This the responsibility I am shouldering and I will pursued it diligently," he said at a dinner hosted by the Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) here tonight.
Najib said as BN chairman, he would ensure that his leadership would not deviate from the objectives of its struggle.
"The approaches must keep up with the times. They may not be the same but what is important BN comes back to power and remain strong," he said.
He said the government had gone through many tests and challenges and had overcome them through the wisdom of previous leaders.
Najib hoped Mubarak would continue to play a major role in restoring the confidence of the people to the government.
Present were the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Mubarak patron Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed and Mubarak president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.
