Chennai , May 21 A city-based orthopedic, who came to be known as"sex doctor"after getting life sentence for making pornographic films and placing them on internet, was today sentenced to 10 years&aposrigorous imprisonment by a special court here in a drug trafficking case.
Principal Sessions and NDPS court Judge S Nagarajan awarded the RI to Dr L Prakash in a case relating to seizure of 55 grams of heroin from his clinic here in January 2002.
He also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the medical practioner, and in default ordered him to undergo a further period of six-month RI. On a close perusal of the prosecution evidence, the court concluded that the case had been proved beyond all reasonable doubt.
"In the above circumstances, I find the accused guilty of offences under the NDPS Act."The judge, however, made it clear that the period of detention already undergone by the accused would be set off against the latest sentence.
Prakash was arrested in December 2001 for making pornographic films and selling them abroad. He was convicted by a fast track court in February 2008 of various offences, including those under Information Technology Act, and sentenced to life. His case was the first in the country to be registered under the IT Act.
During the interrogation in the case, Prakash confessed to the police that he was in possession of heroin in his clinic in the city. The police raided his clinic on January 6, 2002, and the same day he was shown as arrested in the drug trafficking case.
