No PAS candidate for Penanti

PENANG, May 1 — PAS will not be fielding a candidate in the Penanti by-election.

PAS election director Datuk Mustafa Ali said the Pakatan coalition of PAS, DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) had an understanding that there shall be no infighting among themselves in elections.

“As such, Penang PAS Youth’s intention to field a candidate in the by-election has been denied,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

PKR has announced that its Penang deputy liasion chief Mansor Othman, 56, would be contesting the state seat which was vacated by Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin, who is also from PKR.

The Barisan Nasional has yet to announce whether it would be contesting the seat. Polling is scheduled for May 31. – Bernama
