Meeting: Criminal Law Committee Meeting With Polis Diraja Malaysia on 8th April 2009

On the 8th of April 2009, representatives of the Criminal Law Committee (CLC) met with representatives of the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM).

The meeting was part of the ongoing effort by the Bar Council to have regular meetings with the PDRM.
The meeting was a platform for the CLC to discuss issues pertaining to Criminal Law Practice. Issues discussed include compliance with Sections 28A and 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code respectively. Both parties acknowledged the perennial problems regarding the same, and discussed means and ways to overcome and resolve it. Other issues discussed were touting within the vicinity of the courts, bogus lawyers, and unresolved cases of assault and murder of lawyers. Both parties agreed to continue discussion on these issues at the next meeting, which is scheduled to take place at Pulapol.

At the conclusion of this meeting, both CLC and PDRM representatives expressed their eagerness for a tripartite meeting with the Attorney General’s Chambers.The tripartite meeting would facilitate greater understanding and co-operation amongst the (3) bodies.

The CLC was represented by Rajpal Singh (Chairman), Dato’ Baljit Singh, Salim Bin Bashir Bhaskaran, and Jayamurugan Vadivelu while the PDRM was represented by SAC II Dato’ Amar Singh, ACP Sasikala Devi, ACP Razali Bin Basri and ACP Wan Zainuddin Bin Wan Mahmood.
