Newspaper vendor shot dead

The Star, September 24, 2008

KAJANG: A newspaper vendor was gunned down at close range while delivering newspapers in Kampung Rincing, Berenang in Semenyih at 7.20am yesterday.

K. Subramaaniam, 37, died on the spot after he was shot five times in the back.

The vendor, also a restaurant owner, had just finished delivering newspapers on his motorcycle when he was shot.

Subramaniam’s wife, A. Banumathi, 28, is a lance corporal at the Semenyih police station.

Two men on a motorcycle were seen speeding off from the crime scene after the incident.

Initial investigations revealed the killer used a 9mm automatic pistol.

Selangor CID Chief SAC Hasnan said police ruled out robbery because Subramaniam’s valuables were still with him.

Police, it is believed, was investigating if the murder was connected to drugs as Subramaniam had a previous record for alleged drug-related activities.

Another angle was to check if the murder was related to his wife’s job as a policewoman.
