KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Police today questioned the sister of dead schoolboy Aminulrasyid Amzah for three hours over a police report she filed last week.
Lawyers representing Aminulrasyid’s family — N.Surendran, Latheefa Koya as well as Fadiah Fikri accompanied Aminulrasyid’s sister, Nor Azura Amzah, Azamuddin Omar (who was with Aminulrasyid when he was shot) and Muhammad Hafizuddin (Azamuddin’s brother) to the Bukit Aman police station.
All three were questioned for a total of three hours.
“Basically, the police asked Nor Azura on whether the parang belonged to Aminulrasyid, and whether the car which was driven by Aminulrasyid was reversed towards the police,” Fadiah said.
The lawyer said Nor Azura’s answer to the police tallied with the Azamuddin’s testimony on the night that Aminulrasyid was shot.
“She told the police that the car could not have been reversed because when Aminul was shot, his foot was on the accelerator and the car moved forward, not backwards,” said Fadiah.
Surendran explained that police took down Azamuddin and Hafizuddin’s statements on Azamuddin’s claims of being beaten up by police after the shooting.
“The brother recounted what Azamuddin had told him, that he was beaten by policemen even as he raised his hand in surrender,” said Surendran.
Nor Azura had on May 20 lodged a report to “compel the police to investigate the cover-up”.
At the same time another report was also lodged by Hafizuddin.
He had demanded that the police investigate claims that Azamuddin was assaulted by policemen when he crawled out of the car.
In his report, he had stated that a policeman had raised his weapon and nearly fired at his brother as he was fleeing the scene.
The 23-year-old law firm clerk wants the case to be classified as attempted murder.
Both the police and the special panel set up the government to probe the shooting have so far ignored these allegations.
Both families had previously called for separate investigations to be conducted but to no avail.
Surendran demanded that the police address important issues concerning the shooting.
“The family demands that a criminal investigation be conducted on the false statements made by policemen who were at the scene of the shooting, and a criminal investigation on the attempted murder of Azamuddin.
“Action must also be taken against Selangor CPO Datuk Khalid for saying that Aminulrasyid had tried to reverse the car towards the police on the night of the shooting,” said Surendran.
