In letter from prison, Uthaya tells of 'Nazi-style' bullying

...at the notorious Block K (AB), which is run by a group of young Malay gangsters with eight to 12 previous convictions... they shout and are rude at the smallest things, ill treat, bully, torture... punishing and 'disciplining' prisoners for even talking among themselves while forced to sit on the ground, head down and hands clutched to the knees for hours under the hot sun, like the Nazi-era war criminals and watched silently by the prison wardens.

The words above are penned by Hindraf leader P Uthayakumar from the very block where it all allegedly happened in the Kajang Prison, and released to the media yesterday, the 100th day of his incarceration there.

NONEThough Uthayakumar did not reveal if he had personally experienced such 'disciplining', it will nonetheless be humiliating for any person to undergo such treatment in prison.

Worse still, Uthayakumar claimed, the 'disciplining' appeared to be endorsed by the  wardens, who did nothing to stop the gangster inmates.

"The prison wardens' job is made easy by this 'outsourcing'. In return, these gangsters, called JL, camouflaged for 'Jurulatih' (trainer), get to reign supreme in prison.

"(They) 'extort' from prisoners some of the groceries their poor loved ones buy for (them) once a month from the prison canteen, right under the eyes of prison wardens," Uthayakumar wrote.

For turning a blind eye, the Hindraf leader alleged, the prison wardens were rewarded with "perks", such as free massage from the prisoners.

‘Humiliating life'

In his three-page letter filled with lengthy and sometimes fragmented sentences, the 52-year-old inmate details more humiliations suffered by the other prisoners.

"I was horrified when prisoners were made to strip naked, bend down, open up, and show their anus for the warden to see if they have hidden drugs in there... and then sit up and down repeatedly, and cough at the same time to see if any drugs fall off their anus," he said.

But humiliation was not the only concern, as death too, appeared much closer within the four walls.

"I almost witnessed my first death in custody, of a Chinese elderly man, brought in unconscious with a mere piece of paper with his name and body number written on it and stuck to his mouth.

"Only after eight hours and only after my insistence was he taken to the Kajang General Hospital. I never saw him again after that. I was told he had passed away," Uthayakumar said in the letter.

Uthayakumar, who is diabetic, also recounted the troubles with his prolapsed disc condition and a suspected fracture at his index finger, after slipping and falling in the bathroom because of the clogged drains.

"When I complained to the ASP on duty that what would happen if I had hit my head and something had happened to me, his reply was that if something happened there would be "no more problems after that" (as I would have died)," he wrote.

Signing off, Uthayakumar said he welcomed a mooted visit by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who had been  himself a former inmate after being jailed for sedition.

In light of the humiliating and precarious life of the inmates, Uthayakumar also called on the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam), Bar Council and the opposition's human rights caucus to visit the prison.

Fight to “Save Women and Daughters” from ‘Love Jihadis’ is a sacred duty for Hindus. Muzaffarnagar hints a ‘post-Godhra’ in Uttar Pradesh. ~ ASHOK SINGHAL.

PRESS  STATEMENT OF SRI ASHOKJI SINGHAL- PATRON, VISHWA HINDU PARISHAD ON MUZAFFARNAGAR RIOT.

Ashok Singhal Press StatementNew Delhi, September 11, 2013 :: The stalking and felonious behaviour of the ‘Love Jihadis’ with a Hindu girl student returning from her Kisaan Inter-College was the immediate provocation for the grave incidents that took place at the Kawal village of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on 27th August, 2013. The root cause is the Lust Jihad being conducted under the garb of Muslim religion. This incident gave birth to the convening of the “Bahu, Beti Bachao” (“Save Women and Daughters”) Maha Panchayat. When the society could no longer bear the ‘Love Jihadists’ outraging the modesty and dignity of Hindu women and girls in rural and urban areas of U.P. the corrective movement in the form of the “Bahu Beti Bachao Mahapanchayat” came into being.

A number of newspapers, news agencies and electronic media channels have been trying to hide these facts for reasons best known to them. Why was this movement bannered as “Bahu, Beti Bachao Andolan”? When the Love Jihadis in the rabidly pro-Muslim Government of Mulayam Singh found themselves to be above law and conducted themselves accorongly, that compelled the Hindu society to stand on its own feet to safeguard itself. The Love Jihad is not only targeting Bharat (India) and Hindus but also Buddhists and Christians everywhere in the world. These godless Lust Jihadis donning the garb of Muslim religion as a major weapon have, for the last half a century, been targeting the Hindu girls, women, girl students. During the last parliamentary elections the Hindu women had put this problem before Sri Varun Gandhi for an answer as to how to save themselves from these Jihadis.

A solution to this problem has to be found in the said context only. On 27th August, 2013, Gaurav and Sachin – the two brothers of the victim girl student – were hacked to death by Jihadists and then on 30th August, 2013 a huge meeting in support of the Jihadists was allowed to be held in Muzaffarnagar in spite of the curfew under 144 CrPC in place and the family of the victims was accused for all the incidents of Kawal. This laxity on the part of the government emboldening the Jihadists added fuel to the fire infuriating the victims which led to the convening of the “Bahu, Batiyaan Bachao” Maha Panchayat. As a consequence of government support to Jihadists the sparks and fire spread to the entire district and slaughters and arsons took place in villages and urban areas. The Hindus and Muslims had been living in harmony, peace and love all these decades, but the lustful Jihadis made them enemies in no time.

A lesson to be learnt from all these incidents is that a legal ban on Love Jihadis needs to be imposed and the law strictly followed and also the murderer Love Jihadis involved in these incidents given exemplary punishment, otherwise the self-respecting Hindu, even if unwillingly, has to take the responsibility of self-protection into his/her own hands, which would be a matter of shame and suicidal for a government formed under systems of law and constitution.
The state of affairs has come to such a pass that the people have lost all confidence in the Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh government. They also have a compelling feeling that this government is celebrating and emboldening the Love Jihadis on the one hand and crushing the 84-Kosi Parikrama on the other which is why the Hindu society can expect any semblance of justice if this government is dismissed forthwith.

VHP’s Ashok Singhal compares Muzaffarnagar and post-Godhra communal riots.

vhps-ashok-singhal-compares-muzaffarnagar-and-post-godhra-communal-riotsET Bureau | New Delhi | 12 Sep, 2013:: The Vishwa Hindu Parishadhas termed the Muzaffarnagar riots as a “consequence of certain events, just as the post-Godhra riots were a consequence of the events aboard the Sabarmati Express in 2002″.

VHP chief Ashok Singhal said this while squarely blaming the Akhilesh Yadavgovernment for failing to control the situation. Singhal repeated the VHP contention that the “bahu beti bachao Mahapanchayat” was being held to protect the women of Muzaffarnagar and nearby villages, but that events in Kawal village spun out of control.

“The Akhilesh Yadav government has rapidly appeased one section of the population and this is the result,” he said. He, however, refused to blame Gujarat Chief MinisterNarendra Modi for the post-Godhra riots. “There is a divinity in Narendra Modi which is attracting so much support from across the country,” he said. He said he regretted the loss of life but “the root cause of this loss has to be addressed squarely”.

Ashok Singhal attacks SP govt in UP, claims communal peace in Gujarat.

Ashok Ji - Modi Ji
ET Bureau | New Delhi | 11 Sep, 2013:: Accusing the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh of failing to control the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, VHP leader Ashok Singhal today claimed Gujarat has seen peace under chief ministership of Narendra Modi as he has treated Hindus and Muslims alike in the state.
Talking to reporters here, Singhal alleged “Jihadis” are being encouraged by the government, which is disturbing peace. He specifically mentioned “love jihad” as one of the reasons behind the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar.

“Whenever there was a Hindu king in the country, everyone was treated alike. This happens in Gujarat. The way Hindus and Muslims live in peace in Gujarat, similar thing can happen across the country but Jihadis should not be encouraged”, he said.

Charging the Uttar Pradesh government with faliure to control riots in the state, Singhal said “the situation is the same as it was in Gujarat and they blamed Modi for it. The government should be dismissed as it has lost all respect.”

He also slammed SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for UP government’s refusal of permission to VHP to undertake the 84 Kosi yatra in UP.

“When we went to meet Mulayam Singh, we did not think he would deny us permission. We thought two dozen cops were enough to handle the situation but they called in 40 companies of troops and Hindu society was terrorised. And today, the communal riots have reached Shamli, Meerut and other parts,” Singhal said.

He said the outbreak of the Muzaffarnagar riots was because of an eve-teasing incident. Calling for a law in the country against what he termed “love jihad”, Singhal said “for waging ‘love-jihad’ money comes from the Gulf nations. They provide money and motorcycles to lure girls and this has been happening across the country. The people of Muzaffarnagar have shown that they will not tolerate this.”

U.S. consulate in Herat, Afghanistan, attacked, 3 dead

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A huge explosion rocked the area near the U.S. consulate in Afghanistan's Herat province early Friday during a heavy gunfight between militants and security forces, officials said.

The attack occurred just before 6 a.m. local time when attackers sped towards the front gate of the consulate, said Marie Harf, a deputy State Department spokeswoman.

The attackers fired assault rifles starting a gun battle with Afghan security forces. During the battle, a truck exploded, Harf said, causing major damage to the front gate of the consulate.

American consulate personnel took shelter in safe havens while U.S. security forces responded to the attack, Harf said. There were no U.S. casualties.

Seven attackers traveling in two vehicles took part in the assault and all of them were killed, said Mohammad Ayoub Salangi, deputy Afghan Interior Minister.

Three people, two local police officers and a local security guard, were killed, police and hospital officials said. Twenty others were injured.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in an e-mail to CNN.

U.S. Ambassador James B. Cunningham in a statement condemned the attack and lamented the Afghan citizens who lost their lives.

"Many Afghan civilians were killed in the attack, along with others who work for the Consulate as contractors. We are deeply saddened by this senseless loss of life," he said.

Tenaganita blasts authorities over Nepali worker’s suicide, blames recruitment agents

The lack of empathy shown towards migrant workers by the authorities here and Malaysians in

general could have driven a Nepali worker to suicide in Taman Tun Dr Ismail last week, said Tenaganita.

The non-governmental organisation which champions the rights of migrant workers and women said lack of enforcement against recruitment agencies which exploit foreign workers is the main cause of the deplorable conditions the foreigners are subjected to.

"These workers are being exploited. There is an urgent need to review our system and the government must be held accountable," said Tenaganita executive director Irene Fernandez (pic).

The 30-year-old Nepali jumped off the roof of a shoplot along Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1 in TTDI on Wednesday morning, reportedly after being laid off.

According to reports, with mounting debts and the on-going crackdown of illegals by the Malaysian authorities, the Nepali decided to end his life.

"The policies here state that migrant workers must come into the country via recruitment agents and this is where the whole problem starts," said Fernandez.

"They pay between RM5,000 and RM8,000 to agents, depending on the sectors they are to be employed in. Nepalis usually go for jobs in the security industry here as it pays higher."

However, from the numerous complaints Tenaganita has handled, it was revealed that more often than not, Nepali workers are brought in to work in the plantation sector when their visas state otherwise.

"The migrant workers are not aware of this until they are brought into the country and told to work in a different sector.

"They don't protest. They keep silent and work where they are told to for the sake of their families back home and to pay off the debts to the agents.

"The problem starts when they are laid off. They know they cannot go to the authorities for help because they will be arrested and deported for flouting the visa.

"When the authorities move in, the workers are stripped off their work permits and visas, and are deported. Their side of the story goes unheard," she told The Malaysian Insider.

Fernandez said, this is why Tenaganita has always questioned the recruitment procedures and laws practised in the country.

She stressed that companies intending to hire foreign workers must do it themselves by hiring directly.

"However, the existing laws and red tape do not not allow for this, putting the workers in an extremely volatile and vulnerable situation.

Fernandez also does not discount the possibility of more suicides among foreign workers if measures are not taken immediately to deal with the recruitment process.

"This particular worker who took his own life must have been thrown into a situation where there was no hope, since he had no money to support himself. He had no legal paperwork on him and with the crackdown on llegals, he realised his situation was hopeless," she said.

The Nepali's suicide has also triggered an exchange among netizens, particularly those from the affluent TTDI area, as reports had claimed that many onlookers goaded the Nepali while he stood on the rooftop.

One even lamented about how "heartless" netizens in TTDI were over the incident. A reader of The Malaysian Insider also complained about the lack of preparedness by the Fire and Rescue Department and the police during the incident. - September 13, 2013.

We encourage Mahathir’s evil

The rakyat must try harder to remove all traces of Mahathir and his legacy, if this country is to move forwards without the politics of division and mistrust.
COMMENT

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s lack of contrition, is breathtaking but not totally unexpected. We have lost all trust in our politicians, because of him. He stultified our minds, with 40 years of brainwashing.

During his tenure, money greased the wheels of government. Knowledge, or the acquisition of knowledge was restricted, so that in time, he could become master of a compliant rakyat. This is what we have been reduced to, a nation of yes-men who are powerless to act, in the face of mounting recalcitrance.

Mahathir’s 90 minute performance at the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Sabah’s illegal immigrant problem, is testimony of his arrogance. He believes that he is invincible. As the 209th witness at the RCI, he behaved like an arrogant buffoon. He showed his contempt for the proceedings, the court and the rakyat.

He denied any knowledge of Project IC and instead blamed low-ranking officers for issuing identity cards to foreigners. A weak leader is one who blames everyone else, including society, for things that went wrong. Should Mahathir be jailed for contempt of court and perjury?

Why has the head of the Civil Service kept quiet? Why is the union which represents the civil servants, not publicly defended the good name of its members?

More often than not, Umno Baru politicians use and abuse the civil servants to further their political agendas but when Mahathir insults the civil servants, not one Umno Baru politician has dared to protect them.

What of the junior civil servants themselves? Have they protested their innocence? Is it any wonder politicians like Mahathir have nothing but contempt for people who keep quiet when bullies ravage their reputations.

The day after his testimony, Mahathir insinuated that Anwar Ibrahim, his one-time deputy, was responsible for Project IC. Mahathir said, “He was in the government, he knew the government’s policy. If that was the government’s policy, why didn’t he stop it?”

As some people get older, they enter their second childhood. Mahathir’s childish response is perhaps, a manifestation of this second childhood. He is like the spoilt child who wants to be the centre of attraction. At times, he acts like the neglected child craving affection, by playing guessing games.

When asked by reporters if he was referring to Anwar, Mahathir sneered, “Maybe”. Is giving a direct answer beyond Mahathir’s comprehension? His supercilious response is like the child who is privy to a secret and feels superior to everyone else.

Mahathir’s legacy

Any member of the rakyat who goes to a government department is aware that no decision is made without the approval of a civil servant with authority. Senior staff await orders from the top.

Mahathir claimed not to know anything about Project IC. What sort of PM was he, who did not know what was happening in his country? Hundreds of thousands, were given MyKads.

This mammoth operation needed clearance from the highest authority in the land. Mahathir must try harder if he thinks he can continue to pull the wool over our eyes.

By the same token, the rakyat must try harder to remove all traces of Mahathir and his legacy, if this country is to move forwards without the politics of division and mistrust.

In 1987, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah challenged Mahathir in the Umno party elections, but believing the outcome to be tainted, took his fight to the courts. The old Umno party was declared illegal as it had not registered some of its branches.

Ku Li started his own party Semangat 46, whilst Mahathir formed Umno Baru. The vindictive Mahathir dismissed the Lord President of the Supreme Court and castrated the judiciary with a rusty knife. Ku Li is now back in the Umno Baru fold. Situation normal then?

Anwar launched an attack on Mahathir when he wanted the government to adopt an austerity package and he opposed a number of Mahathir’s fiscal measures in the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis.

Mahathir threw Anwar in jail on trumped-up charges of sodomy, insubordination and corruption, but he was freed and later cleared of these charges, when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi became PM.

In 2013, the Opposition won the popular vote, but massive cheating returned Umno Baru to power. Handouts like BR1M and other petty cash bribes are enough to dull the average Malaysian mind.

Now that Umno Baru has broken all the promises it made before GE13, some who voted for Umno Baru have finally realised their mistake. What about the rest? Are they still in denial?

A few years ago, Mahathir claimed that he had opposed Operation Lalang, the sweep to imprison his critics in 1987. He said that it was instigated by the police, a charge confirmed by Hanif Omar, the IGP during Mahathir’s tenure. Close buddies will come to each other’s aid.

Similarly, Mahathir denied that he had a hand in the Memali massacre of 1985 and blamed Musa Hitam, his deputy. The trend is that Mahathir ‘disappears’, when something nasty happens.

Changing our destiny

Mahathir denied that there was any corruption in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project when billions of ringgits were lost.

Mahathir claimed not to remember his role in the VK Lingam scandal, where judges who were aligned to him were selected for higher office.

People who testified in the Sabah RCI, claimed that Mahathir gave the nod to open the flood gates and allow Filipinos and Indonesians who were Muslims, to be given ICs.

Mahathir betrayed the rakyat and altered the face, culture and genetic pool of our country. He poisoned our trust in politicians.

Mahathir has consistently lied in other RCIs, despite the evidence that was presented in court. Mahathir equates himself with Umno Baru, which in turn, identifies itself with the Malays, who have this notion that Malaysia belongs to them.

It does not! Malaysia belongs to rightful Malaysians.

The problem is not Mahathir. The problem is us. Mahathir is evil because we encourage him.

Are we going to continue to accept his lies and half-truths time and time again? Or are we going to pressure the judiciary and the few men of integrity left in this institution, to punish those who are guilty of treason? It is our responsibility to change our destiny.

Defiant Muslim dog rescuer dares council to sue him

Ordered to evacuate his premises, a Muslim male saviour of hundreds of dogs in Kedah has challenged the authorities to sue him if they really have a problem with what he is doing.

"I don't want to trouble people. The easiest thing is for the local council... to instruct their lawyer to sue me in court.

NONE"They can charge me, because it is me who is doing this, not the dogs. Am I breaking the law? Am I sinning?" Muhammad Azmi Ismail asked when contacted by KiniTV.

Better known as Pak Mie, Muhammad Azmi, said that Alor Setar City Council has instructed them to evacuate the present premises on Sept 19.

However, the Padang Terap District Council has informed that he and his wife, Mak Intan, cannot relocated their makeshift animal shelter to their chosen area because of local resistance.

While he still does not know where he will move to, Pak Mie said he will not abandon the dogs as they are innocent.

"I will care for these dogs, come what may...My heart is becoming harder because of these things. I will do anything, even if it involves using force," he said.

Meanwhile, Pak Mie, whose tale of selflessness has featured even in international news reports, said he will today meet with Alor Setar MP Gooi Hsiao Leung, who has offered to help to explore his options.

Uthayakumar fights on after 100 days in jail

After enduring 100 days of tough prison life, Hindraf leader P Uthayakumar said he has no regret for making a stand on the rights of the Indian Malaysian community.

In a letter to the press, Uthayakumar said that after a “very difficult” trial he was sentenced to a jail term of two years and six months jail under the Sedition act.

“On this 100th day of imprisonment at Kajang Prison, I have no regrets in this my struggle as I had no regrets in my almost 17 months of imprisonment under the Internal Security Act (ISA),” Uthayakumar wrote.

He also said he welcomes all humanitarian visitors, including Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who has been trying to meet him in prison.

“I welcome YAB Lim Guan Eng to visit me. I urge Suhakam, the Bar Council and the Pakatan Rakyat Parliamentarian Human Rights Caucus to visit me in Kajang Prison,” Uthayakumar said.
In the long, strongly-worded letter, he details his routine and claims to have often been mistreated in prison.
gordon brown british govt meltdown 040609 01thayakumar was charged with writing a letter to the then British prime minister Gordon Brown (right), complaining about the loss of Indian community rights in Malaysia.

Uthayakumar suggested that his imprisonment, despite having already served almost two year's detention over the same matter under the Internal Security Act, was an attempt to punish him for snubbing the government.

He also revealed that prior to the 13th General Election, he was officially invited to meet Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak but had turned it down.

"If I had done so (attended the meeting) and had put my personal interest over and above the interest of the Indian poor, I would have also been made a minister if not deputy minister..." he said in an undisguised dig at his own brother.
P Waythamoorty had backed BN in the last polls after the ruling coalition pledged to implement Hindraf's blueprint to uplift the Indian community.

Man arrested for hitting PM's portrait with slippers

A disgruntled man was arrested after he put his slippers to a portrait of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak outside the Jalan Duta Court Complex.

According to the Sin Chew Daily, the man, in his 60s, was upset over his Socso compensation and being denied pension.

In yesterday's 10.45am incident, the man was found loitering at the complex's gates while slapping a poster of the premier with slippers.

He was advised against the action and told to leave the premises by police but to no avail, the daily reported.

He was aken to a police station at around 12.30pm.

Last year, a 19-year-old girl was investigated for sedition for stepping on a portrait of Najib.

Conduct full probe into SK Seri Pristana issue

MP SPEAKS The Education Ministry and SK Seri Pristana headmaster must accept blame for prolonging the ‘eat-in-shower room' debacle.

Education Minister II Idris Jusoh yesterday asked members of the public to let slide the issue of pupils made to have their recess in a shower room in SK Seri Pristana.

"Malaysia is a multiracial country so we should be a forgiving society.

NONE"If a mistake is made, we solve it the Malaysian way, instead of blowing things up to the extent that it does not help anyone... We must learn to forgive and forget," Idris (right) told Bahasa Malaysia daily Berita Harian.

Malaysians are very forgiving people but Idris Jusoh should know there are reasons why the SK Seri Pristana affair has not and cannot come to a closure.

He should also know that the issue has not ended and will not because there are certain parties that are bent on "fuelling the issue further", as he himself alleged.

The whole issue has exploded with the meals in the shower room incident, which could have been resolved if the Education Ministry had immediately conducted a full investigation and published its findings.

But the Education Ministry failed to do this.

Then, when allegations surfaced that the headmaster took photographs of the pupils, that teachers and pupils harassed the non-Muslim pupils whose faces appeared in photographs of children having their meals in the shower room that had gone viral in the social media, the Education Ministry again did nothing.

Education Minister Muhyiddin has chosen to remain silent till today, despite my asking him whether he was heartless or powerless, or both, on this issue.

Ministry did not heed my call
On JuIy 31, I had called for a top Education Ministry officer to be sent to the school to address the morning assembly and to send the message that no bullying and intimidation of students would be allowed. However, the ministry did not take heed of my call.

So can the ministry blame the parents and concerned parties from continuing to highlight their plight in the media?

NONETill today, even the headmaster has not even shown any sign of remorse or tendered an open, sincere apology.

So, is it fair for Idris to ask the parents and members of the public just to forgive and forget when the Education Ministry failed to deal with the issues effectively, quickly and fairly, with the school headmaster still thinking he is right despite all the allegations against him and the school?

The two parties who should be blamed for prolonging the whole controversy are the Education Ministry and the headmaster.

I wonder whether it is just because Parliament will be meeting soon, at which Muhyiddin is expected to be quizzed, was the reason for the meeting among parents of pupils from SK Seri Pristana, the headmaster and Education Department that took place a few days ago.

I agree that the school issue should come to a closure and it can only come to that with a full investigation into all the allegations made against the school and the headmaster.

Man surrenders over threat to kill police chief

A direct-selling dealer surrendered to the police today over a threat to kill Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

The 33-year-old man gave himself up at the Cheras police headquarters at 9.30am, said district police chief Mohan Singh Tara Singh.

"The suspect came alone and surrendered. We sent him to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for a statement to be recorded," he told reporters.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man hailed from Negeri Sembilan and was living in Malacca, he said, adding that the man had no criminal record.

The police lodged a report yesterday at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters after coming across a Facebook account in the name of one Murugan Nagaretinam which read: "Can anyone just hire gunman to shoot down this police or IGP?"

The Facebook account holder had commented on the police shooting dead two men believed to be gangsters in Malacca yesterday.

The men were cut down in a shootout with the police at 9.20am after they opened fire at policemen who had approached them as they waited in a car at the roadside near a hypermarket in Cheng.
