Zahid advises Waytha to toe gov't line

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today advised Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy to toe the government line and not issue statements that contradicted government policy.

“He (Waytha Moorthy) should not continue to regard himself as the leader of a non-governmental organisation. He should not be thinking like the leader of Hindraf (Hindu Rights Action Force). Do not interfere in police work,” he told reporters.

Ahmad Zahid was commenting on Waytha Moorthy’s alleged questioning of the police explanation that the five suspected gangsters killed in a shootout with the police in Penang last Monday had been shot at point blank range.

Waytha Moorthy had also reportedly said it appeared that the police did not shoot the five dead in self-defence and urged attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail to conduct an inquest to determine the cause of death.

Last Monday, police shot dead five gangsters believed to be hired killers who were wanted for murders and attempted murders in Penang, Kedah and Negri Sembilan.

Ahmad Zahid said the police should be allowed to carry out their work as they knew better.

On the status of the film ‘The New Village’, which has yet to get past the Film Censorship Board, Ahmad Zahid said he had yet to get any feedback from the board.

Several non-governmental and political organisations have urged the banning of the film, saying it allegedly glorified the communists.

Underwear Model Converting To Islam To Marry Muslim: ‘I Don’t Want To Flash My Boobs Any More’

carly reg and hijab

Underwear model Carley Watts has announced that she is giving up her career and converting to Islam to marry the love of her life.

The 24-year-old fell for Tunisian lifeguard, Mohamed Salah, so she has decided to cover her body head to toe according to Islamic teachings.

She met and fell in love with the 25-year-old lifeguard while on vacation in Tunisia. She was so serious about him that she agreed to convert to Islam.

Watts has a two-year-old daughter named Alannah. They will both be relocating to the city of Monastir, close to Salah’s family.

Watts told The Sun that her friends did not agree with her decision:
“They can’t get their heads round me going from being the last girl standing on every night out to wearing a veil and converting to Islam. Meeting Mohamed has made me really look at my life. I don’t want to be going wild, flashing my boobs and falling out of nightclubs any more. But we couldn’t be more different.

” Watts also said that Salah’s family where shocked when they learned she was a single mother, so no way would they be told about her modeling career.

She said, “He explained that he loved me and wanted me to be his wife and they have come round to that. He accepts that [glamor modelling] is what I do and doesn’t try to change me. But he says once we are married my body is for his eyes only. Single mums don’t exist in his world and men who get unmarried women pregnant go to prison. It is all about family and he idolizes his mother.”

Carley Watts claimed that she was very happy with her decision: “These are the kind of values I love about their culture. Women are treated with respect and they also respect themselves and their bodies. They don’t do one-night stands or casual flings. When I’m with Mohammed I feel so content, calm and happy. I know he’s the kind, family man for me.” So, Carley Watts is exchanging a bikini for a burka and paying no attention to the famous Chinese saying “be careful what you wish for…..”

Sanjeevan expected to start speaking in 48 hours

Thirty-seven people have been confirmed dead in Malaysia's worst road accident when a bus plunged into a 200-foot deep ravine as it made its way down from the Genting Highlands resort in Pahang this afternoon.

Rescuers gave the death toll as police dog units scoured the undergrowth in the ravine for any more survivors of the accident that happened just before 3pm, some four km from the popular hill resort. The driver, in his 40s, also died in the accident, police said.

The 16 passengers who were rescued, 10 men and six women, were sent to hospitals in Selayang, Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Buloh and Bentong. Some of them suffered severe injuries, said authorities.

There were a total of 53 people in the bus which came from the resort, 55km away from Kuala Lumpur. Initial reports had put the total number aboard the bus at 49.

The ravine, which is inaccessible by road, has forced rescue workers to use a crane to lift the victims.

It was reported that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed through the road barrier before plunging into the ravine.

Authorities reported that passengers who were seated towards the front of the bus were flung out of the vehicle when it hit the trees.

Police are investigating to ascertain whether the bus was overloaded.

So far, authorities revealed that three of the 37 who died were foreigners from Bangladesh, China and Thailand.

The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan visited the scene and were given a briefing by police.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, St Johns Ambulance, Civil Defence Department and the police were mobilised once the distress call was received at 2.46pm.

The Genting Highlands road has seen several fatal bus accidents but this is said to be the worst along that stretch and in the country.

Before today's crash, the worst accident in Malaysia over the past 10 years occurred near Cameron Highlands on December 20, 2010, when 28 people were killed after a double-decker bus overturned.

The accident occurred near the 15km milestone on the Cameron Highlands-Simpang Pulai road.

It claimed 22 lives on the spot, while the other six died after being taken to hospital. All the passengers were Thai nationals on their way back to Kuala Lumpur from the hill resort, in the company of three Malaysians - the bus driver, his assistant and a tour guide. - August 21, 2013.

Do not mess with us, IGP warns gangs

The IGP warns gangs not to mess with the cops and that the authorities will go all out to wipe out crime in the country.
FULL REPORT

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar today sent a chilling message to gangs in the country, telling the troublemakers not to “mess with the police force”.

“Don’t mess with us and do not try to threaten us,” he told reporters at a Hari Raya open house here.

Yesterday, the notorious Gang 04 allegedly spray painted gang symbols on the walls of a police beat base and the Banting district police headquarters in Selangor.

The 04 number, religious swastika symbol and “RIP” (rest in peace) were spray painted in red on the walls and doors of the beat base while the same symbols appeared on the walls of shoplots in the vicinity.

Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Nordin Manan was reported to have said that the police were investigating the culprits behind the graffiti.

The IGP was also firm that the Ops Cantas, an operation by the police to crackdown on crime, would continue until criminal activities are wiped out.

“There is no time frame for this Ops,” he said, when asked the duration of Ops Cantas.

Almost 700 people were arrested within 48-hours since the launch of Ops Cantas in Selangor. Backed by the Crime Prevention Act 1959, the police are expected to arrest more people nationwide in the next few days.

‘No such thing as shoot to kill’

Khalid also refuted claims that police were trigger happy in gunning down five 04 gang members in Penang two days ago.

Khalid said the five were killed, when the police acted in self defense.

“My men were defending themselves. We do not simply open fire just to shoot anybody. We have our own standard operating procedure,” Khalid said.

On Monday, the five men were gunned down in an ambush by a special police team in an apartment in Sungai Nibong.

Police seized three pistols from the five men aged between 23 and 27 years old. Khalid had earlier said that police opened fire after they were shot at first.

The five gang members were allegedly involved in 12 shooting cases in three states. Police have been monitoring the gang for several months and had set up a special team to investigate all the shooting and murder cases.

Meanwhile, Khalid said the family of the deceased are free to request for an inquest as long as procedures are followed.

“I have no problem if they wanted to call for an inquest,” he said briefly.

Asked of the families claim that the five were asleep when they were ambushed, shot and killed, he said:” Anybody can say anything…we are carrying out our responsibility.”

Bullets for lawyer of slain youths’ families

Five rounds wrapped in plastic found outside RSN Rayer's house.

GEORGE TOWN: Five bullets wrapped in a plastic bag were found this morning outside the house of RSN Rayer, the lawyer representing the families of the five youths whom police killed in Sungai Nibong on Monday.

Rayer, a DAP member and the state assemblyman for Seri Delima, has lodged a report at the Jelutong police station.

Police have collected the bullets and a video footage recorded by a CCTV installed in Rayer’s house.

Rayer said his nephew found the packet at 7.50am in the front yard of his home in Tingkat Tembaga in Island Park.

He added that the 10-year-old was frightened by his discovery and instantly reported it to Rayer’s father, who in turn alerted the assemblyman.

In his report, Rayer expressed fear for his and his family’s security and called for a thorough investigation.

He said he was considering fixing bullet-proof windows for his car.

This was the second time in 10 years that Rayer had received a threat in the form of bullets. In the previous incident, a bullet was sent to his legal office.

‘MyWatch to continue with its exposé’

Anti-crime watch co-founder S Gobi Krishnan insists they will continue with their exposes despite the murder attempt on its chairman R Sanjeevan
VIDEO INSIDE

PETALING JAYA: Local anti-crime watchdog, MyWatch will continue with its revelations on corrupt cops linked to drug syndicates and underworld kingpins.

In an interview with FMT, co-founder of MyWatch, S Gobi Krishnan said they were only waiting for R Sri Sanjeevan to recover from his injury and the revelations will continue.

The MyWatch chief was shot in a murder attempt on July 27, a couple of weeks after he had exposed links between a drug syndicate and the police in Negeri Sembilan and Malacca.

He successfully underwent surgery recently to remove a bullet which was lodged in his abdomen and is currently recovering at the Serdang Hospital.

“Sanjeevan will not be brought down, he will come back stronger. I know him too well. MyWatch will continue its work for sure, we are just waiting for his return,” said Gobi Krishnan.

Gobi said the police and government never could refute the crime statistics that MyWatch revealed.

“We had previously come up with crime statistics which showed the police and Home Ministry covering up the truth.

“We received no responses and nor refutations from both parties, this only means that our statistics were accurate. They must admit it,” he added.

‘We’re not the enemy’

Gobi urged the police and government to work together with MyWatch to bring about a more peaceful and safe Malaysia.

“We are only trying to give the people a clearer picture, the police must admit the truth and work with us. We want to be treated like a partner against crime. We are not the enemy,” he said.

Gobi also said that Sanjeevan’s murder attempt was bound to happen since he had revealed top cops and a drug syndicate.

“He was only trying to help the police but it built up to this. Thank god the attempt failed,” he said.

Gobi also expressed concern over his own safety and others in MyWatch.

“I have been cautious from the very first day, now we have to be extra cautious at all times. We never know what will happen as our revelations involve high profile people and drug syndicates,” added Gobi.
