The wife of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader T Vasanthakumar today denied that her husband is willing to support Barisan Nasional if he is released from detention under the Internal Security Act as claimed by a 'relative'.
In clarifying the matter, K Vickneswary said she does not know who the so-called relative (who made the statement) was.Yesterday, A Latha, who claimed to be Vasanthakumar's cousin, told reporters that the latter mentioned to her that he would support BN if released.
Disputing this, Vickneswary said: "I don’t even know who this Latha is. Anybody can come and claim that they are my husband's relative. It is a political game," she said, stressing that any official statement should only come from her.
However, the mother of two added that she would not file a police report on the matter.
"I am not going to the police (for now). I am just not aware of this statement and I hope this will never happen again," she said.
'Praying for his release'
Yesterday, two Hindraf leaders V Ganabatirau and R Kenghadharan were released after spending 15 months in detention.They were among five Hindraf leaders arrested in December 2007, shortly after organising a mammoth rally.
Apart from Vasanthakumar, the other two still in detention are P Uthayakumar and M Manoharan.
Ganabatirau and Kenghadharan were among 13 ISA detainees freed yesterday as pledged by newly appointed prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak.
Meanwhile, Vickneswary said she is looking forward to her husband's release as well. "I am praying really hard for it (to happen). I hope the new PM will look into this matter and release him."
She said their children, especially the couple’s seven-year-old daughter, miss their father.
