ALOR STAR, 14 Aug 2009: The Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) Liaison Body leaves it to the Penang state government to resolve the tension in Kampung Buah Pala following the demolition order on the houses in the settlement.
Penang BN chairperson Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said only the state government was responsible to find a solution to the problem faced by the residents in the area, whose houses were ordered to be demolished.
"They are very eager to become heroes, let them be," he said when approached by reporters after opening the Kedah Gerakan delegates conference at Tanjung Bendahara here today.
He said this when asked to comment on the tense situation at Kampung Buah Pala, Penang yesterday when a housing developer tried to demolish 23 units of houses there to make way for a housing project.
However, attempts by workers from the housing developer to enter the area were blocked by residents who had gathered since early morning on Jalan Kaki Bukit, about 100m from the entrance to the area, shouting at the workers concerned. — Bernama
