Security guard shoots armoured van driver, escapes with RM1.2mil

The Star
TAIPING: An armoured van driver was fatally shot, apparently by his security guard colleague who escaped with the RM1.2mil cash-in-transit on Tuesday.

In the 3pm incident outside the Giant supermarket in Jalan Tekah, the guard was seen running to a black Honda Civic, which had trailed the van earlier, with the money after the shooting.

Police are looking for Mohd Hafizuddin Zainal Abidin from Taman Kaya here to help in the investigations.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Yusuf Mohd Diah said Hasnul Hafiz Saad, 28, died while seated behind the wheel.

Hasnul, a father of two from Kampung Pinang, had gunshot wounds on his stomach, shoulder, chest and thigh.

ACP Mohd Diah said at least six bags of money were missing from the van.

A shopper at the hypermarket said he saw the Honda Civic car trailing the van when it exited from the hypermarket compound.

It is learnt that after the driver was gunned down, the guard exited from the rear of the van where the money bags were kept and loaded them into the car.

Colleagues of the driver said it could be an inside job.

One of them said both the van's front doors could not be opened from the outside so a code is needed to open the doors from inside.

He said the guards normally entered via a side door before locking themselves up in the van.
