KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The "My Distress" smartphone
application introduced by Selangor police in August last year has helped
police in combating crime.
The latest case was in Section 8, Serdang Raya, Serdang on Saturday when police arrested one of two suspected burglars after receiving "My Distress" signal from a man.
Serdang police chief ACP Abd Razak Elias said upon receiving the signal,a patrol car was immediately dispatched and managed to intercept the two suspects on a motorcycle.
He said one of them was arrested when found hiding in a drain with the help of two car accessories shop workers.
On inspection, police seized an iron cutter, an iron rod that was modified into a sharp object, a parang, and a necklace.
"This is the first success of Serdang police to make an arrest with the help of the system," he told reporters here Tuesday.
