Man gets 25 years for stabbing girlfriend 36 times

SHAH ALAM: The High Court here sentenced an electrical goods coordinator to 25 years in jail for killing his girlfriend by stabbing her 36 times with a knife, after she decided to break off their relationship.

The accused G Selvaraaj, 26, was sentenced after admitting to killing M Indra Devi, 22, at 47, Jalan Sungai Kapar Indah 9, Taman Sungai Kapar Indah, Kapar, Klang, near here between 3.30am and 4.30am on Jan 6, 2008.

Judge Mohtarudin Baki ordered the accused to serve the sentence from the day of his arrest on Jan 6, 2008.

In his judgment, Mohtarudin said the accused was lucky because Selvaraaj who was initially charged with murder was offered an alternative charge by the prosecution.

According to the facts of the case, Indra was able to call the police after seeing the accused, who was drunk, trying to break into the house.

After breaking into the house and stabbing the victim, the accused had tried to stab himself with a screw driver but his attempt was averted by the police who arrived at the scene before arresting him.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Kamal Roslan while the accused was represented by K Renuka Devi.

Post-mortem reports revealed that the victim had died due to bleeding caused by repeated stab wounds to the chest, neck and body.
