Soi Lek says he won’t join Cabinet

Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today dismissed speculation he would nominate himself to be one of MCA’s ministers in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Cabinet.

Speculation has been building over a Cabinet reshuffle since Dr Chua won a bitterly-contested party election to oust as MCA president the unpopular Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

Najib has been expected to use the changes in MCA’s senior leadership to undertake a minor Cabinet reshuffle, which may also see some movement among ministers from Umno and other parties in the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

However, Dr Chua has reiterated that he would not nominate himself as a minister.

“I have said before and I will keep my promise. I will not join the Cabinet,” he said here today.

Dr Chua was health minister until early 2008, when he was forced to resign from the Cabinet and all party positions in the fallout from a secret recording of a tryst with his mistress, which was leaked to the public.
