KUALA LUMPUR: MIC central working committee member KP Samy is contemplating a defamation suit against Youth chief T Mohan for allegedly calling the former “childish” during a recent CWC meeting.
He said Mohan uttered the word when he asked about the alleged transfer of RM4 million belonging to the Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED), whose former chief executive officer was P Chitrakala Vasu.
(Chitrakala was recently charged with three counts of cheating MIED to the tune of RM4 million. The case will be mentioned on June 14.)
“I asked him more than 10 times to retract his word. Mohan refused and instead challenged me to take the matter to court,” KP Samy said.
When asked what was the reaction of MIC president S Samy Vellu during the tussle, he said the president kept mum and asked them to settle the issue between themselves.
“The RM4 million is public money. So I took up Mohan's challenge. I will consult my lawyers,” he said, adding that he was disappointed with Mohan.
“How can a Youth chief run down a CWC member just like that?” asked KP Samy. He plans to hold a press conference on Monday to explain the issue in detail.
Sacking of Barat Maniam
On the sacking of V Subramaniam, or popularly known as Barat Maniam, from the party, KP Samy said even CWC members are in the dark over the reasons for the dismissal.
“There was no show-cause letter issued to Subramaniam as far as I know. Barat is known to be a hardcore supporter of party deputy president G Palanivel,” said KP Samy
“I believe this is an indirect message to Palanivel's camp. Usually, the deputy president is consulted by the president before sacking a member according to the party constitution. This was not done.”
On Maika Holdings' takeover by G Gnanalingam, he hoped that the latter would match the share value, ringgit for ringgit, with a 20 cent premium.
“A lot of people worked hard to ensure that the poor Indians who contributed to Maika get back their money. Special thanks to Gnanalingam and to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak for their efforts (to seek a solution),” said KP Samy.
