Refused sex, man pours acid on wife

KUANTAN: Angered by his wife's refusal to have sex with him, a man splashed formic acid on her.

In the 2am incident yesterday, the 47-year-old rubber smallholder was believed to have returned home after a gambling session.

"He went into the bedroom and woke up his wife as he wanted to have sex with her, but she refused as she was feeling unwell and was having a headache," Kuantan district police deputy chief Supt Zulkifli Taha said when contacted here today.

"The man became angry and took a pail of formic acid outside the house and splashed it on his wife's face and body."

Zulkifli said two teenage children of the couple who were at home rushed to to their mother's aid after hearing the commotion.

"They then called their aunt and nextdoor neighbour to send their mother to the Bukit Goh health clinic before she was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

"The victim's sister-in-law lodged a police report at the Panching station at 4am yesterday."

He said the suspect, who did not have any criminal record, surrendered himself to the Kuantan district police headquarters. He is being detained for investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

The victim, in her 30's, who is seriously injured on her face and parts of her body, is said to be in stable condition. She and her husband have been married for 15 years.
