MALACCA: The decision to charge those suspected of being involved in the controversial Port Klang Free Trade Zone (PKFZ) project shows the government will not protect anyone, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

It is also based on evidence of elements of corruption. “Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said that any matters concerning the PKFZ, the government
will be transparent.

“We will not compromise on this matter.

“Any reports to the authorities will be investigated and the findings will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“If there is a case, those responsible will be charged.

“We will not hesitate to act against anyone and we will not protect anyone,” he told reporters after officiating at the One District, One Industry Showcase at the Malacca International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh here yesterday.

Muhyiddin said those charged were only suspects and that it was not right to come to a conclusion that they are guilty.

“We will leave that to the court to decide based on the evidence presented and let the due process of the law take its course,” he said.

Also present at the press conference were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.

Muhyiddin was asked to comment on the CBT charges against Port Klang Authority former general manager Datin Paduka Phang Oi Choo.

Also charged were Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Stephen Abok and architect Bernard Tan Seng Swee. On Monday, Law Jenn Dong, an engineer with Kuala Dimensi, will be charged in court.
