Zulkefly Admits Not A Bagan Pinang Local

PORT DICKSON, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- PAS' candidate for the Bagan Pinang by-election Zulkefly Mohamad Omar said he not being a local in the state constituency might be an advantage to his opponent from the Barisan Nasional (BN).

Nevertheless, Zulkefly, who is also Negeri Sembilan PAS commissioner, said the fact that he was born in Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan put him in good stead to have a go for the seat.

"I am Negeri Sembilan born," he told reporters after he was announced as PAS' candidate for the by-election.

He said the same applied to the BN's candidate Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad who was not even born in Negeri Sembilan but hailed from Melaka.

However, compared to Zulkefly, Isa who had held the position of Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar for 22 years since 1982, was brought up in Kampung Bagan Pinang and is highly respected by the local community for his charisma and warmth.

Zulkefly had contested in three general elections - in 1999, 2004 and 2008 - for the Lenggeng state seat but lost each time
