Two bank robbers shot dead

SUBANG JAYA, Oct 12 – Two men suspected of committing a series of bank robberies in the Klang Valley the last two months were shot dead by police in separate incidents today.

In the first, the 22-year-old suspect was shot dead at Persiaran Equine Perdana in Seri Kembangan nearby the Jusco shopping centre at around 2.15pm.

The second suspect was gunned down at the Gohtong Jaya intersection in Genting Higlands around 3.30pm.

Selangor CID chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan when met at the scene in Seri Kembangan, confirmed both shootings but declined to elaborate.

Bernama understands that a police team, acting on a tip-off, had tailed the Honda Accord car driven by the first suspect before ordering him to stop.

However, the suspect sped away but was cornered at the Equine Perdana traffic light and, when asked to surrender, came out of his car and fired several shots at the policemen. The suspect was killed in the ensuing shootout. Police recovered a .38-calibre revolver from the suspect.

It was a similar story in the Gohtong Jaya case.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah, when met in Gohtong Jaya, said police recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol from the suspect.

He said a press conference on the two incidents would be held tomorrow morning.

The two suspects were believed to have been involved in bank robberies in Puchong Prima on Aug 21, in Seri Kembangan on Sept 15 and Taman Segar Cheras on Sept 18. They had managed to escape with RM180,000 in the three robberies. – Bernama
