Puteri Umno Resolutions Touch On History, IT And Maids

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- History, IT and maids were among the main topics and resolutions put forward by delegates at the Puteri Umno general assembly here on Wednesday.

Puteri exco member Wan Salwani Abdullah who put forward a resolution on making history a must-pass subject, just like Bahasa Malaysia, was well received by the delegates.

Wan Salwani said the people, especially the younger generation, must learn and understand the history of the country so that they can preserve the country from enemies from outside.

"Knowing the history of the country, especially the rights of the Malay rulers, constitution and privileges of the Malays, would avoid the people from falling into the trap of those who try to mislead the public for their own benefit," she said when supporting the Puteri head's speech at the wing's general assembly here today.

Meanwhile, Kedah Puteri Umno chief Norashimah Md Nowar proposed the setting up of a special commission to monitor the expansion of the information technology, mainly websites and blogs, from spreading irresponsible news.

"By setting up a commission, we can monitor the identity of the writer or information provider on the websites or blogs," said Norashimah.

A Puteri Sabah delegate, Musliyati Muslimin meanwhile, proposed the setting up of a special training centre to train school dropouts or those who were left behind academically, to become qualified house maids.

"If we can produce qualified house maids, we need not depend on foreign maids. We can also prevent the outflow of cash from our country," said Musliyati.

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin told Bernama that the Puteri leadership must take up the challenge to meet the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) by next May, especially to increase the membership.

Action would be taken immediately to replace 25,000 members who had to leave the Wing after surpassing the 35 age group, she said.

"It might sound firm but the KPI will be implemented at all levels immediately," she said.

Rosnah said each member of the Wing that comprise of 328,000 members, must recruit five new members so that the expectation of the Umno leaders can be met even before two years.
