Minimal Conditions Needed To Contest Top Posts In Umno - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Minimal conditions will still be required to contest top posts in Umno after the abolishment of the quota system said Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday.

For example, to contest a post in the division, the candidate must have been a member for three years and for top posts in the party, including the post of president, the candidate must be a committee member in the division for one term, said Najib.

"There are conditions but minimal. Whatever it is we will see the reaction tomorrow when we table it at the Special Umno General Assembly," said Najib after chairing a special Umno Supreme Council meeting on the party's constitution amendment at Menara Dato' Onn here.

Najib who is also the Prime Minister hoped that the amendments to the constitution which includes seven proposals to make Umno more vibrant, transparent and democratic, would be received by the delegates.

He said an in-depth study was carried out on the proposals for amendments, at all levels.

Chairman of the Umno Constitution Amendments Committee Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein will table the amendments for debate and endorsement by the delegates tomorrow, said Najib.
