CWC member wants secret ballot at MIC assembly

KP Samy is persistent on finding out what transpired when top MIC leaders met Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

PETALING JAYA: MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) member KP Samy will propose for a secret ballot at the party general assembly to find out if the delegates are in favour of knowing what happened when the top leaders met Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak recently.

Samy vowed to bring this up during the next CWC meeting and will propose for a secret ballot during the general assembly to be held later this year.

“My demand for an emergency CWC meeting still stands and there is no way I’m backing down.

“The members who had showed their support for me are asking for an explanation,” he said.

Last Saturday, party president G Palanivel had said Samy’s call for an emergency CWC meeting to explain what had happened was a waste of time.

Palanivel had said that he was not interested in discussing about it.

On Aug 18, Najib met Palanivel, deputy president Dr S Subramaniam and vice- presidents M Saravanan and SK Devamany, to discuss the party polls, especially the contest for the top post.

Until then, Subramaniam was touted to challenge Palanivel for the presidency. However following the meeting, Subramaniam announced that he would not be challenging Palanivel, who was re-elected unopposed as the president on Sept 1.

“Palanivel is duty-bound to explain what had transpired (at the meeting). The democratic rights of the party is now in question.

“He cannot turn a blind eye and not explain to the CWC members,” said Samy.

“If the party president himself hesitates to explain, what more the other three?” he asked, referring to Subramaniam, Saravanan and Devamany.

“I have also received information that Kamalanathan had attended the meeting as well. If this is true, what is his role in that meeting?” he asked.

The elections for the other posts would take place during the party AGM, scheduled to be held in November.
