Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said the ministry should find ways to streamline all laws and policies before it weaken the society.
"Survival of the family institution is very important," she said after opening the Asia Pacific family conference with the theme divorce, remarry, extended family and step family Monday night.
Shahrizat said her ministry would study all issues discussed as preparation for emerging issues for the family institution.
She hopes that the conference will review all policies and share studies on the effect of extended families on children.
