Tourist Bus Involved In Accident, Six Dead, 21 Injured

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Six people were killed and 21 others were reported injured after a tourist bus skidded and overturned at Km38 Genting Sempah near here at 7.50pm Friday night.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Azizan Ismail said the bus, with a driver and co-driver and 44 passengers who were all members of Belia 4B Kampung Siong, Baling, was on its way down from Genting Highlands and heading to here when the tragedy happened.

He said the touring group of youths had spent a night at the hill resort.

He said his department was alerted about the accident by the Bentong Fire and Rescue Department at 7.51pm and that rescuers from the Bentong, Kuala Lumpur, Selayang and Taman Melawati fire stations were despatched to the scene to assist the injured and extricate the dead, who were trapped under the bus.

The injured were sent to the Bentong Hospital, Selayang Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The identities of those killed in the tragedy was given as follows;

Mohamad Khairy Mohamad Mazuki, 14; Mohd Amirul Muhamat Isa, 13; Mohamad Firdaus Rosedi, 16; Mohammad Yussof A. Akhit, 16; Mohd Ridzuan Husin, 17; Muhd Fahmi Abdul Mustaffa,17.
