Avoid Political Activities That Are Disrespectful Of Court Decision, Says Najib

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today he hoped the people of Perak will focus on efforts to develop the state and not get involved in any political activities that could be deemed disrespectful of the Federal Court decision that Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir is the rightful menteri besar of the state.

The Prime Minister said the time had come for all quarters to give Zambry the opportunity to show his ability to champion the people's interests and develop the state.

"Thank God, with today's decision of the Federal Court which is the apex court in our judicial system, the issue of who should be the menteri besar and form the government in Perak has been settled.

"I hope this decision gives closure to the matter (as to who is the rightful menteri besar of Perak) and that there no longer be any disputes concerning the legitimacy of the Perak government," he said.

He told this to reporters after witnessing the signing of an agreement between GIIG Holdings Sdn Bhd and Aluminium Corporation of China Limited to develop an aluminium smelter at the Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Also present were Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Najib was commenting on the decision by the Federal Court today which ruled that Zambry was the rightful menteri besar of Perak. It was a unanimous decision by a five-man bench of the apex court.

Commenting further, the prime minister said everyone should accept the decision although those who lost might hold differing views.

Najib said for now, the Barisan Nasional (BN) governmnet in Perak wanted to focus all its efforts to provide the best service possible to the people of the state.

He said any issues related to the administration of the BN government could be raised when the next election comes.

"Come election time, the people can make their own evaluation. Now is not the time to march here and there or hold outdoor demonstrations or under a tree or anywhere...no need.

"Just wait until the election comes if you feel you want to have your say ...it is the most appropriate platform," he added.
