(abs-cbnNEWS.com) ZAMBOANGA, Philippines - Two Malaysian-Chinese businessmen were abducted in Sabah, Malaysia on Monday and brought to Mindanao.
Chen Yui Chung, 48 years old, and Lai Wong Chung, 46 years old, were allegedly abducted February 8 by a Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) headed by Albader Parad at Sipangkat island, Samporna in the state of Sabah.The kidnappers reportedly fled with the 2 Malaysian-Chinese towards the town of Sibutu in Tawi-Tawi province aboard motorized pumpboats powered by 2 outboard engines.
Superintendent Mipunod Maruhon, Tawi-Tawi police director, said the two victims are in Mindanao.
Chief Inspector Cerrazid Umabong, meanwhile, said the Marine Brigade Landing Team-23 is patrolling areas as far as the island of Salaug, Tawi-Tawi in response to the report, but it so far failed to get information.
He said government troops are still in the area monitoring the developments.

Malaysian government says it was NOT Abu Sayyaf
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said although based on the assessment, the group was not organised like the Abu Sayyaf, it was important for the authorities to intensify surveillance in the area.
